Wow... this is so exciting. I can't wait to see what kind of DSLR it is.

I am planning to get a D70s, but I think I have to wait around and see now...

What do you think, it's a successor of D200 or the D70?

The Nikon Website

And if it is indeed the next D70s, please please please, a bigger optical viewfinder...at least similar to D200...

I don't think Nikon would be in a hurry to change the sucess they are having with the D200. So the possibility of bringing the entry level dSLR up to the same pixel count as to their prosumer level dSLR wouldn't be a surprised move, just like Canon 350D and 30D I guess.

Got the link to dpreview's page:

No way it'd be an upgrade to the D200. That hasn't even been out a year and is still selling like hotcakes... lots of shops in NYC still can't stock them fast enough.

It'd be pretty neat to see something between the $1k and $1.5k price range though.

I'm still not going to wait however. I'm picking up a D200 tomorrow or Saturday.

So most probably it will be a successor of D70s then...

Which is good news. I hope it's not a successor of D2Hs ---> that means another highe end DSLR that I will never be able to afford.

Apparently they've taken the D70 off of their site in some territories.

I'd say that's a sign. Now, if they'd just make a nice metal body like the Canon 30D has, that'd be amazing.

Also, look here:

Check out the silhouette (sp?). If you look at the mode on the right it's definitely not the type of mode dial as the D200.

I am not very concerned about the body since I think the D70 has a solid enough feel to it already. But usually metal body = much more expensive price.

Don't think it will have metal body though.

Bigger viewfinder is nice, mirror lock-up is nice, shake-off dust prevention system is nice.

I hope it is not a D70sS with 2.5 LCD screen and "improved auto focus".

Hmmmmm, very interesting. And there is no way it'll be a replacement for the D200. As others have mentioned it's still flying off the shelves.

Hey, I just took a look at your site, by the way. You take nice photos! I like what you do with color, and I always enjoy someone turning the ordiniary into something else.

But yeah, metal bod probably isn't totally necessary... hopefully it'll have a lot of what the D200 has, with the more user friendly "pro-sumer" features (scene modes etc) that the D200 lacks.

Mercuttio: Thanks for looking, glad you liked them.

By the way, you're right.

The body is very similar to D70s. This is the comparison of the two (Upcoming DSLR and D70s)

At least one thing we are sure of is it will still have the same ergonomic that Nikon is famous for.

Kinda neat how you can see the changes in the curves there. Looks like a pretty standard SLR "redesign" where they make things a bit sleeker between generations.

To me the mystery camera looks to be much more like the D200 shell than the D70s. Specifically the angle of the dial on the right hand side of the picture. Either way Nikon is finally doing a good job of marketing something rather than just dropping a bombshell. They've managed to create buzz on a headphone forum about a camera

a successor to the D70/D70s? wow, the D70s isn't that old, either. so there's a MP increase, possibly a bigger LCD, and...?? how will nikon differentiate it enough from the d200 so as to not cannibalize its d200 sales?

btw, my 18-200mm VR lens just shipped...after waiting almost 3 mos.
