New Nano or ipod for me?

It's a hard choice but if you are not worried about the moving parts or bigger size, I would go 30gb ipod instead of an 8gb nano. You will pack it with so much more music. I went with the nano for the gym.

Because it can get annoying to constantly change albums. It's nice to just have everything there and not have to worry about it. After all, convenience is the primary reason to get a DAP.

My thoughts exactly.

Constantly change? It takes me weeks to listen to everything on a 4gb nano.

The issue isn't about "using up" the songs, but having the songs you'll want that day on it. One day I might be in a classical mood, so I'll fill the thing up with classical music, the next day I might want rock, then the next day I might have no idea what I want to listen to so I'll just browse through for a while, etc.

For people who aren't good at predicting what they'll want to listen to later or who often get a sudden "craving" to listen to a certain artist (both describe me to a tee), it can be hard to pick what to take and what to leave, and with a massive HD that isn't a problem.

In conclusion: different people have different listening habits.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that it's a just a firmware update. Possibly a bigger battery on the 80gb too, which may allow a higher brightness setting.

This is can be an even bigger problem if your taking a backpack full of cds to work everyday like I am right now

. Having to change cds can also mess up my concentration/hacking "zone". I'm glad my ipod is suppose to get here in a few days.

Coming from an NW HD5 with tons of battery life, I've always been leery of the iPod battery life. Especially since my kids had Nano's and most of the time were out of juice when they'd want a listen.

The new battery life of the Nano looks great (24 hrs) and so does the 80 GB (20 hrs), but the new 30 looks like it gets much less. So my decision is between the 80 for $100 more or the Nano. I'm buying this to listen to music, not get mad at batteries - so the 30 is out.

Now it's a tough call all over again.

My 20 GB Gen 4 ipod with line out through my SR-71 amp is much better than my Nano 4GB throught the same setup. Of course, if you really want the best sound you have to do WAV. I thought for a long time that lossless was close, then I really compared and heard the loss of depth and spatial cues in lossless as well as the loss of some dynamics. That was enough for me to totally commit to WAV.

Good luck with your deicision.
