Before anyone rails on me about the "search" button, know that I have used it, and have found many threads, none of which told me what I needed to know. Also, there are no dealers of Denon or Alessandro in my area, to the best of my knowledge.

My question is simple. When it comes to headphones, regardless of design, that are in the $70-$150 category, which is superior? Which offers, in your opinion, the best balance of isolation, comfort, and above all else, quality? The first two listed on the poll were the ones that I was most interested in, but I understand that there are many other options out there in this price range. If you could tell me your number two choice, as well, it would be appreciated.

If I was in your shoes and had a buget like that.

RX900 with dynamat, removing some felt mod.

Save the rest of the money to upgrade source/amp and for new headphones later.

Total around $75, from buy.com, free shipping for both cans and dynamat, you can read reviews if RX900 and the mod in this forum.

I have read the reviews - it's the reason the RX900 is even a choice on the poll. I've been sufficiently convinced to purchase a pair of RX700's already. Still waiting for them to arrive, though. I needed the RX700 for watching movies and such; the poll is for another purpose entirely.

It'll be a toss up between AD700 and D1001, IMO. And the choice depends on your desiderata.

Is sound leakage OK? If not, D1001.
Is some isolation desirable? If so, D1001.
If soundstage of great importance? If so, AD700.
Is bass important? If so, D1001.

Etc. Specify your preferences a bit more.

I understand what you mean. This is just meant to be according to your own preferences/as general as possible.

Other.. Sony MDR-V6 in that list, even though some people consider it as under rated, it might be an underdog..

Thought they are all pretty good, M-Audio Q40.. darn good

Anyone know if the V6 is similar to the 7506? My understanding is that the 7506 is built off of the V6.

Save a little more, sell some stuff, or, hell, sign up at a temp agency and work a weekend for an extra $50.

Then take your $200 and put it on a used Sennheiser HD-600. It isn't that isolating, but nearly the best you can get for every other requirement you listed. For the price, the HD-600 cannot be bettered by anything near its price, especially used.

Hahaha. I was told they isolate as well as a paper cup. (Won't stop me from picking a pair up in a few weeks, though...)

The D1001 is closed, the AD700 is not. Even if the D1001 has terrible isolation, it's bound to be better than the AD700.
