Meanwhile, while waiting for the Vali, I decided to pad-rolling my Odin a little bit further. Found that "ZMF Cowhide pads" is the "ultimate bass pads" for Odin. While it won't rival an Abyss just yet, it definitely on another level, bass-wise, from the stock pads.

My Odin has arrived on last Saturday, it is an old Mahogany wood version, I like the antique and pragmatic look, Kennerton definitely is a mater in wood craftmanship.

The Package:

I have asked for TWO litz cable, a long one for home use, and a short one for portable use.

Love the sound immediately, best bass resolution I have in my collection, the vocal is full and involving, the extension is good but a slightly harsh, start to burn in round the clock now.

Slightly harsh treble?

These look great!

That's when compare to the demo unit I heard at the Munich Show. Give it some time, I am sure this will not be a problem after proper burn-in. :beerchug:

I had been thinking about a 2nd Odin (Mk II) in Old Wood finish. Now I see the real thing. Yeah, this looks amazing.

Have to find more money somehow :)

it is not as eye catching when compare to some other choices, I am a fundamentalist and I prefer to remain low profile, so this is my preferred option.

Mahogany has a shade of red in natural light, my bedroom lighting has ruin the natural beauty of the Odin, will bring it outdoor for a better photo treat later.

I can see from your photos that the white balance seems a little bit off and it should have more red-shade. Will wait for your new photos :)

Hello everyone,

Congratulations for the acquisition your Odin mk2 "Old Wood".

I allowed myself to improve color matching picture (before and after) for your Odin.

The Kennerton 2 meters cable version, in Litz wire, is excellent and goes perfectly well with your Odin mk2 (also cabled internally in litz wire).

Furthermore, you are right to wait, for the "burn-in", for your Odin headphone ; me too, I had heard it, at the very beginning, for my version in "Karelian Birch" of the Odin mk2 (also with a 2 m cable in Litz wire), as a little hard and a little rough to listen (before burn-in).

After a few dozen hours of "burn-in" this hardness completely disappears and the Odin becomes a very great headphone, both smooth, fluid, precise, dynamic, natural, nuanced, detailed and fast; it is the anti-boredom headphone by excellence, best of all for me (after having listened to some other (009, LCD3-F, LCD-X, HE-1000 and even Abyss (at lest for the midrange).

I would say now that I begin to prefer my mk2 Odin ("burn-in") compared to Odin mk1 (perfectly "burn-in"), with perhaps actualy a presentation a little more just, concerning the tonality, for the Odin mk2 compared to mk1; but it remains in  the domain of the subtle and the subjectif.

Associated with a Viva Egoista 2A3 (and 845) amp, the Odin mk2, cabled in Litz wire, is a dream; but it is very easy to drive, and I am sure that, with many of the amplifiers, it will function perfectly well and with happiness.

That was because my bedroom was not bright enough to take the photo and I used my mobile phone LED to help out, and the AWB of my camera couldn't handle blue shade of the LED correctly.

I edited this photo to match the color of the headphone and then created an color profile to modify other photos, the result might not be completely consistent across all photo, but they are a lot closer to the original headphone color.

Mr Valentine Kazanzhi of Kenneton Audio has send me the same photo that Eric has posted earlier on, and my headphone was the first Odin from the left, second row from top. the red-shade is noticeable on that photo.

I've received two cable from Kennerton, the 480 strands Litz cable is 2.5m (or 3m? not 100% sure) and terminated in 4pin XLR, and the 84 strands Litz cable is 1.5m only and terminated in 3.5mm TRS, this should covered all the scenario I can think of, at least for the moment. The headphone cable are indeed very high quality, beautifully sound and professionally make, I recommend everyone who consider buying Odin or Vali should include this cable in their shopping list.

This is the fourth planar headphone in my collection, all from different brands and design. I kind-of familiar with the burn-in behavior of Planar headphone pretty well, will listen to Odin every 1-2 days briefly, but probably need to wait 10 days before I'll do any serious listening.

Moreover,

Who is the best or at least the most desirable ?

Focal Utopia ($ 4000) or Kennerton Odin ($ 2450) ?

Focal Utopia

Kennerton Odin mk2 (wooden in Karelian Birch)

FR Focal Utopia http://www.innerfidelity.com/images/FocalUtopia.pdf

FR Kennerton Odin

Pending comparative listening by Cladane (or others)

FR seems similar with, perhaps an better bass extension with Utopia.
but, is it wealth timbres identical? particularly in the midrange?

Note concerning measurements of the Focal Utopia.
It is a dynamic headphone and there is a large peak impedance, at 50 Hz, which is not without consequence for the amplifier (choose a low Z out).
The centering of the headphone Utopia seem very critical ; FR is very variable in the midrange according centering.
There appears an imbalance of 2 dB between the two channels (left and right).
