just got this for 30 shipped. seems i got lucky, these are 50 all over.impressions soon

Ok, a few quick impressions:

1st of all-these are NOT better than an rx700. unless u love bass!

packaging- blister pack- I pretty much had to destroy the package to get these out.

build- plasticky but very solid. doesnt creak at all. earcups dont swivel, nice pads. rubbery cord feels decent. also the cord is only 5 feet long (about). the earcups style is slightly ridiculous. has a bass port- basically a rubber ring around the driver opening that concentrates bass straight in to your ear.

sound out of the box- large stage, very bassy, big emphasis in the 60-100 hz range. highs are slightly recessed. easily out-basses an rx900 i had close by.

more to come...

UPDATE:

a few days and several hours in the highs have come out a little. bass still boomy though.  I am enjoying these headphones a lot for the price now.

How would you compare them to the HA-RX700?

Also, a bit off topic, but I'm seeing 2 HA-RX700 users, if adjusted properly on ear, do they have much leakage?

did some gaming.
nice directional sound do to large soundstage. good at separating sounds. likes a small amp. bass is fun when firing a tank and such.
from an mp3 player the bass is muddy, but was fine usng a portable amp.

I also noticed there's another model, the JVC HA-S4X. Any thoughts?

i think thats the on-ear version. knowing jvc, probably bass heavy. these ae obviously competitors to sonys xb lineup, with a nod toward monster beats

compare to sonys xb700 is about the closest by my memory.

Also- i just discovered there is a small metal grill in the center of each cup, i'm sure it enhances the bass
