Its true!
With the latest iPods you need iTunes to add files to the iPod database. No 3rd. party application will work.

Yup, tried every software out there and also reflashed the firmware on the iPod Classic, no go at all. This really sucks.

For a Mac OS X or MS Windows user the obvious solution is iTunes.
But users of other OS (GNU/Linux, *BSD, etc.) are screwed.

I feel with you, but I am pretty certain that there will eventually be a way around this.
Perhaps someone should send an iPod classic to Jon Lech Johansen?
