New Hifiman Headphone HE-400 is out

Well, I was a bit curious about whether or not there was a driver change so I emailed them.

And they just told me that they're selling the 2nd batch of He-400 "and their quality were greatly improved"

So it could just be new parts from another manufacturer?

I'm also hoping that my He-400 aren't DOA or messed up when I receive them.. -_-

But then again, if I don't like the sound of the He-400 compared to my main rig atm, I'll just eat the shipping and return them. My curiosity for the He-400 is just too strong atm

The second batch is what most of us have.

Actually there was official announcement of rev 2 drivers at Hifiman's site. But they removed that from news feed.

HFM porn!! Certainly looks different to me. But doesn't mean it sound different.

Yeah that is true it is possible that the driver housing changed in color only but the driver membrane did not. The membrane certainly looks the same between the clear and sandy color housing. I can't tell in my set because i have a screen mesh covering the magnet housing.. I also don't think the housing color change or even if it was a different material would change the sonic sound signature either but who knows unless they where sent off with same pads to be measured for differences?

Got my replacement velours. <3

No more experimenting with these babies. I'll see if I can get someone to sew the old ones back to health.

I'm still really happy with my HE-400. I've been having a hard time pulling myself away from listening to music because of them.

If I had one gripe, it's just the headband. It still irritates my scalp from the pressure sometimes. And even though you can adjust the band by bending it, I always find myself having to adjust it after a couple of days. Feel like I'm always fighting it.

The LCD-2's are much heavier, yet the headband didn't annoy my head the way the HE-400 will sometimes. But what can you do. It doesn't happen that often, and like I said just have to fidget around with the band and it goes away.

Put velours on this morning, trying to convince myself that all of you are right and there's some positive difference to it.

Jazz sounds nice. I think I'm starting to like like them.

I have been thinking about the headband issue and how to make it more comfortable without cutting or otherwise damaging the existing headband. I was wondering if a car seatbelt pad could be clipped over it. There are some pleather type ones on Ebay, might send for one if anyone thinks it might work.
