Yes, it should be.
In this case, HiBy OS = Android 12 with "DTA" global SRC bypass customized by HiBy.
Confusing is an understatement!

So... The R3 runs HibyOS and so does R4 but R4 is Android and R3 is not?

I can't keep up

OMG, some alien robots took over Hibys design department and are preparing the global invasion ... I am definitively too old for this flashy gamer design.
... and why aren't they marketing this under their "Hiby Digital" sub-brand "for the Gen Z" like the M300?

But more importantly, I would love to see (balanced) Line-Outs on the R4 like on the R6 which seem not to be supported.

They aren’t marketing this towards Gen Z because this DAP has many “audiophile” components such as Quad DAC, balanced output, FGPA with dual clocks, SRC bypass for bit perfect playback etc…

The Gen Z player was very basic, single ended output only, single DAC, no Android SRC bypass, and included a built in speaker and microphone which most audiophile players don’t have.

It seems that this player is effectively replacing the R5 series as the entry level Android player in Hiby’s lineup. This dap has the same size battery, same size screen, upgrading to Quad DACs and upgrading to the 665 SoC, 3GB of RAM and Android 12. The R5 II also did not have separate line out ports, it had combined headphone/line out.

I also don’t love the design. Will probably go for black/black or silver/while as those seem the most understated. Also don’t love that they got rid of the class AB Econ mode with the long battery life. 12 hours is a little disappointing when the R5 II has class AB Econ mode with 35hr battery. Otherwise, all great upgrades from the R5 II with Quad DAC, better SoC, more RAM and Android.

Your confusion is understandable. Hope this helps you understand.

Their in-house developed system architecture for HiFi audio is called "HiBy OS."
There are two types of operating system (OS) that adopt this architecture: Linux-based one and Android-based one.

R3 has linux based one, and R4 has Android 12 based one with global SRC bypass.

Per @Lu88 post above, there are two versions:
  1. Class A / 12hrs playback time
  2. Class AB / 15hrs playback time / Different presentation (cheaper?)
From what I understood the Class AB version is a special collaboration with the Da Wuyi MIDI Festival that won’t be released to the general public and will be released a month later than the regular version.
