Just leaving this here for anyone want to try to squeeze a little bit (or a whole lot) extra soundstage out of the R4 or any HiBy R Android device:

@o0genesis0o can attest that it may completely erase any concern any has about the soundstage of the R4 and more besides?
Any chance these can be added manually now or in the future? I have terrible unreliable wifi and am using ethernet only right now and likely for the forseeable future. I am planning on getting the R4 in the next couple of months and would love these plugins. Might they be added via firmware in the future?

I was actually wondering about something like this as an option. Connecting the DAP to my computer and being able to use my wired internet connection to kind of side load to the R4 with the USB connection. So thanks for the link and this is something I will try once I get the R4. This will actually be my first fully open Android DAP having owned the Fiio M9 and M7 previously with their stripped down and limited use Android OS.

Go into Settings and tap Error Report then tap back out. Look for a file called hibysdk.log in the root folder of your R4 and send to me via direct message. Thanks.
I reformatted the micro SD card and re-transferred the files, and the Hiby music app hang-ups are gone. I'm not exactly sure what the issue was since I used the same micro SD card in my Shanling H2, and it scans and runs fine. Perhaps the Hiby music app needs to have better error-handling capabilities.

Hi there,

Anytime a DAC is connected to the R4 via USB or coax (via an adapter cable on the USB port, sold separately), the R4 will start sending digital audio signals through the connection. There will also be a popup asking if you want HiByMusic (or any other relevant apps installed) to take control of the USB connection, which will enable bitperfect output.

If you want to turn off internet, bluetooth and wifi you may simply do that via the buttons on the pulldown notification shade. You can always access files stored on the player itself.

Opinions vary regarding the last question. The question usually revolves around whether the DAC receives all correct data, and whether the data is well timed (less jitter). I would refer to Torq's first two posts in this thread: https://forum.headphones.com/t/mis-understanding-usb-audio/6719
Hi @Joe Bloggs would you be so kind enough to give the link to the adapter cable you mentioned?

When you say the Shanling H2 ran fine, did you confirm that every single track on your SD was playing fine?

It could be that the H2 saw the exact same error, but choose to ignore it instead of trying to fix it and/or aborting the scan—which would be a worse error handling IMO…

I suspect that the issues were related to the micro sd getting corrupted. Since all the tracks were good when played, turns out there wasn't anything wrong with them.

Thank you. How is this used exactly? What settings do I need to set to activate the s/pdif output?
Just connect the cable and make sure nothing else is connected to the DAP

I have always been curious if the USB-C to 3.5mm coax cable works with other DAPs, or is it Hiby specific?
It's not exclusively HiBy specific, but certainly not a standard feature of the USB-C port. HiBy and affiliated companies' devices, shall we say...
