AFAIK, both 204 and 501Mk1 use the ES9018, the 501Mk2 use the ES9038Pro.

Thanks,
for the 204 they seem to use quite old boards from 2010:

204/205 has dac B of MAN 301 which was launched in 2014 (30th Anniversary). Original MAN301 users had an option to upgrade to dac B.
Weiss 204 = INT 204+ Golden MAN 301 (DAC-B or mk2).
Dac -B’s output stage is discrete & inspired from Weiss’s op1bp discrete opamps.

I read your link, very interesting.
However, if you go to page 2 of the review I posted above and zoom the picture you see that the DAC board is from 2010.
And please can you explain why Weiss did a 30% price increase for the 204?
Thx

Matt

No it does not. It has a number on there WPCB-02010-0200
That does not mean its a year date.
The main pcb below has the number WPCB-02057-0100. Does this mean it was made in year 2057?

It does have a stocker date on it; 01/14

Are you sure about it being discrete? It looks like op-amp output stage to me.
IV stage is opa1612 whereas LPF is bipolar discrete.

But the Golden DAC module looks like this:

https://scontent-muc2-1.xx.fbcdn.ne...4jFn7Ed1Z7edstcx4F9aI_L5DjTPxIZyQ&oe=652E7948

This is quite different to the board from the 204 review.

So it seems they use an older DAC board than the Golden one for the 204.

AFAIK, Weiss have updated the pictures in their manuals after Aug 1st. If you see Weiss 204 manual it is dated Aug 23. Previously, it was July 22.

I guess Weiss have updated the PCB layout/numbering as well. I could be wrong.

This is OEM 301.

Yes, it is.
The Golden MAN301 has the last four numbers -0100, but both have -02023- in the middle, so they seem not to be very different.
But obviously these are not the boards of the DAC204 in the review.
So the question is did Weiss change the boards of the DAC204 when they increased the price?
IMO, these questions should be clarified by Weiss.
A prospective buyer of a DAC204 should know which DAC board is inside.

Email all your questions to weiss. I'm sure they will clarify everything. They are very transparent.
