Th900 mk 2 is purportedly the same as the original, just with detachable cables.

Which is a fairly significant upgrade, in that the original TH900's cable had a tendency to get overly curled/kinked/knotted with use, and not want to go back to being relatively straight. And of course, there was no balanced option.  Hopefully aftermarket cable manufacturers will start making TH-610/900mkII compatible cables as well.

Interesting. Mine has more or less straightened out nicely, while still curling back for storage.  But the freedom of detachable cables/ balanced is quite nice.  There was a good price for the MK2's somewhere a little while back, quite a bit lower than the standard retail price.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that the connectors are butt-ugly.  But YMMV.

So I send an E-Mail to Fostex. They said, if the connector fits, ist working. The wiring is no Problem. I hope this helps.
As for the headphones sound. I'm blown away.

Clear good low end that reaches very deep, but isn't overpowering. The mids are present but not annoying and the resolution is very good. The soundstage is big for a closed headphone.
I can highly recommend them.

Can confirm, it's definitely wood.
Beautiful, beautiful dark walnut with black grain.

I'm gonna have to try real hard to get replacement pairs done this well - man I love these.

Just came in yesterday and I can tell a few differences to the D5000s and D2000s I got, so this'll make for a longer write-up or rambled recording in the future.
Cool stuff, biodynamics. Am a fan. Now I want to try TH-900s.. :|

I would love to hear some impressions for the TH610, especially a comparison with the D2000. My D2000 arrived tonight, but its left channel died after couple of minutes :frowning2: I've tried to wiggle/straighten the cable, but I think the problem is with the driver. I've managed to made them produce sound in the left channel after some time but they cut off after a few minutes again. So tomorrow I'm returning them :frowning2:. Still, during the short time I was able to listen I quite like their sound. Is TH610 sound signature close to theirs? Would you say that they are V-shaped? I intend to
buy them as soon as I get my refund and my salary for October :)  www.hifisound.de will have them in stock in mid October which is a great timing for me. You've mentioned that a friend of yours
got their TH610 from www.hifisound.de - any negative experiences with that purchase?

I have bought the at hifisound.de; no problems at all and a friendly helpful contact.
In comparison to all closed headphones i owned (AKG K550, Sennheiser Momentum 2) they are neutral. I would say slightly U-Shaped no harsh highs.
