The picture of the 2022 model shows that the plug socket has been integrated into the underside of the ear cup, removing the need for the external housing which incorporates the socket on the 2020 model. This seems to open-up the back quite significantly. It will be interesting to hear whether this affects things.

I would hope it would lighten which seems to be the trend in some Flagships

Yes, as I said, in my experience, it is not possible to transform one headphone into another by using EQ.
In principle, you only personalize the tonality.

For me, the most valuable insight in my hi-fi-headphone-history, was to realize what my preferred tonality even looks like,
and how I can realize it.
I would gladly give Oratory a medal!

It is also worth mentioning that you can correct design-related inconsistencies in the FR, such as resonances
(here on the example of the current Utopia,
as a valley and uphill between about 1-10khz) on the basis of FR measurements + EQ.



As @Nomax has already said, it is very interesting to exchange with others, and see that there are completely different approaches.
The one must be convinced in 60 seconds out of the box, and the other listens to the headphones not at all with the fr provided by the manufacturer.
I'm owner of the HE-1000 V2 since last weekend, and haven't heard it for a second with the "standard FR".
And that's where it will stay.
Because the profile, which I have created in advance, creates a sound experience, which I would describe as almost perfect.

Hopefully the new Utopia will be around the corner. Would it be a true Utopia successor. Keeping the lemo is actually a good choice, as I still have my custom Lemo cable.

So that I can use my previous cable from the Utopia OG, after I sold the OG.

I'm not sure what that last post meant. Besides the pamphlet, does anyone have any reliable confirmation on the new release announcement and release date? My dealer told me he has not heard anything from the Focal rep. I usually see a flood of sales of the previous model when a new Flagship is in the channel. I don't see all that many 2020 Utopias for sale. Just curious if there is any other 3rd party confirmation. I have been holding off re-purchasing a pair of 2020s and I would like any info available.

Last weekend my local dealer offered very substantial discounts on the 2020 Utopia - but I've not encountered any suggestion at all of a new model (other than what I've seen on this website).

Yes- I can get great deals from my dealer and I’ve called a couple of the large online sites that are quick to offer a deal. One deal as low as a pre owned price which is why I’m anxious to find out about the new model before I lose it.
I think the 2020 will bottom but I don’t think dealers will sell at a significant loss. There are still a lot of 2020s available. When bhphoto or Adriana drops then you know something’s up.

My guess is all the dealers and reviewers are under an NDA and Focal hasn’t given the go ahead to make the official announcement. Seems most of them are good at keeping their word. A few slipped up and I’m sure Focal wasn’t happy, especially the since the pamphlet was never meant for customer’s eyes. So even though they can’t say anything, they’re still happy to try and unload current stock with great discounts.
