New custom IEM company - Custom Art: discussion, review, and impressions thread

Aug 4, 2018 at 4:38 AM Post #4,051 of 4,065
Anyone here get custom ear tips through custom art? Getting my impressions done next week for the first time and am having trouble deciding who to go with.

These will be for a Campfire Polaris.

How is the fit/Isolation? Any advice you can give?

Hi

Should be getting a set through in the next couple of weeks, ironically for a set of Campfire audio Comets. Will let you know how it goes.

As to deciding who to go with it would probably depend on where you are in the world. If you are in the states it may be worth reaching out to Campfire direct as I believe they are going to be doing customs and tips as well, you would obviously have to go and ask in the campfire threads about those. That said there's nothing wrong with sticking with Custom Art anyway :)

With regards to impressions make sure the audiologist know's that they are for custom in ears and not hearing aids as there is a difference. If possible it may be worth phoning them and having a chat with them before going in. Oh and make sure your ears are free of wax (yuck) before going in as they will not be able to do it if there are any issues with that regard.

Good luck!

Dear Head-fiers,

It's high time to say goodbye to our long time favorites - Ei.3 and Pro330v2. They are now on sale at €295 and €475 respectively, for limited time period, before being completely phased out. So don't miss out - https://thecustomart.com/promotion-clearance/
Both IEMs are huge part of Custom Art's history making this decision even tougher.
Ei.3 debuted as our first venture into acrylic material. It was meant to disrupt the ever increasing prices of the industry providing balanced and smooth sound with focus on fast-paced lows. Designed specifically for those listening to EDM and Rap. It quickly became one of the most popular pick for newcomers to the custom monitor realm, served as inexpensive secondary IEM for workouts at gym, finally it has been increasingly popular monitor among drummers and bassists.
Pro330v2 dates even further back. Released in early 2014 up until now it remained the longest in Custom Art's line up. It's the first IEM utilizing our Single Phase design. Meant to be a true professional musician's stage tool. It proved to be best choice for vocalists - used by some of the most prominent Polish and International singers endorsed by Custom Art. Pro330v2 featured a distinctive mid-oriented characteristics with very quick low frequency response and detailed true-to-recordings highs.

Even though these IEMs are on sale they still come with full 12 months (no-questions-asked) warranty, 30day refit policy, life-time support (as long as sub-components are manufactured), industry-first and longest standing €85+shipping post-warranty repair policy, ownership transfer starting as low as €85+shipping and overall top notch support :)

As always it's hard to let go, but we feel the need to move on and we are confident our FIBAE line up is worthy successor.
Since the beginning of Custom Art we feel we are destined to keep increasing value we bring to the industry. It’s our legacy that is always in the making.

The Pro330v2 and the Music One were my favourite CIEMs among your lineup, but now the FIBAE3 steps up the game!

Interesting read, can't wait to see your next FIBAE improvement!

So had my custom art tips back for a while now. Love them. I've always always struggled with full size customs whether they be silicone or acrylic. Been to two different audiologists and the results have been the same. I won't list the companies but they have all tried their hardest and no dice. Weird, but that sums me up really. Couldn't use universals as I had the same issue that others do, left ear fit fine, right ear small was too small and medium and up was too big. Out of desperation really I decided to give custom tips a shot and asked Piotr to make me a pair figuring I had nothing much to lose (given they cost the same as about 3 packs of comply, as ca already had my impressions on file). Forward the usual wait time and tried them on. Initially a bit of a learning curve as they were quite difficult to get in and out easily. Now they are nice and quick. Using them on a pair of Custom Art Music Two's (discontinued) universals and the original plan of a pair of Campfire Audio Comet's. Funnily enough I find the Comet's a lot harder to put in than the Music Two's. Guessing it's the angle I'm putting them in at. I can get them in but it's a bit hit and miss. The Two's go in nice and easily now, even though the shell's stick out a bit (not too much though). Cons? Well they only fit nozzles with a lip on the end to help keep them on, so anything with a smooth barrel is out (think Westone, Noble, Empire Ears to name a few). I can see this as the way forward for me.

Speaking of the Music Two's I've discovered they've got a nice synergy with the hiby r6. Known for it's warmth and high output impedence issues I was a little surprised at how well they matched. No hiss and lots of bass which impressed me. Good combo I reckon.

Thanks for the feedback and I'm glad they are working.
Most IEMs have a bit different nozzles - and Campfire's are wider in diameter compared to ours roughly by 1mm if I recall correctly.

Just want to share my exp here. And my gratitude.
Been using custom CustomArt Eartip Silicon that I bought myself for more then 1 month.
It was pair with Campfire Solaris.

The Fitting to Solaris was excellent, IMO, with request to CustomArt to make the inner Bore as wide as they can.

Fitting in my ear, since I am just a regular Asian, it make the IEM seen a bit off / gap.

But it really stick and steady position in your ear.
Here, I realize that Campfire Solaris Size and shape may not for every one, so seal is the main issued. And really due affect Solaris potential Sound.

SoundWise, this custom eartip really change the sound signature of Solaris to Dark Warm, IMO, still have smooth treble.
If you like Campfire Spark Signature, probably you can skip this custom eartip. But if you prefer Warm, with Weight Bass, detail sub Bass rumble, this may be your path.

Pairing with a lot of source/DAP/Music player,

S@msung G. Note 8.

my Daily DAP : iBasso DX221mk2
I make this impression because iBasso new FW, change to really neutral tends to Bright.
The Bass that I enjoyed before became a bit thinner. kinda make me off...

Shanling M5s.
Was having discussion about Midtier DAP pair with Solaris. mention that this DAP can give good bass. I had tried this DAP a year ago with Solaris with no Custom CA Eartip. It was dry Bright.
So Yesterday, I gave it another try. quite shocked for me, that it did deliver Bass, a good one, as similar as DX221mk2.
20191011_162336.jpg

luckily there's another Solaris around, standard and use reguler silicon eartips, and the sound pairing was like I had tried year ago.. DAMN Dry and Bright.
20191011_162651.jpg

so the point I wanted to Highlight
- Solaris may have some issued with some people regarding fitting / getting good seal inside the ear, and CustomArt custome silicon Eartip can help that.
- It changes the sound signature significantly. Since it makes the tube longer, so Low will get the most benefit, while the Treble will compensate...

Lucky for me, it was going to the sound signature I prefer. Going back to regular eartip with Solaris, will be very hard now.

So My experience yesterday, really open my eyes wider about Customed eartips.

Thank you Piotr and also CustomArt team for the great product.

Custom tips in my experience do tend to make the iem stick out a bit anyway, so think yours maybe about right. Was gutted when I lost my left tip.

Thank you for your detailed feedback. Indeed such change in sound is to be expected - a bit more bass a bit less treble and improvement in staging.

Hi guys,

just a some notes about my Custom Art experience about the last 6 years.

In 2014 I got my first CIEM ever, it was after long search the Music One

Even at this time Custom Art was still pretty "new" to me, the good customer service convinced me and very fair prices for the entry CIEM world was the last step.

custom-art-music-one-r.jpg

Just one year later in 2015 I really want to step up in the game, my choice are the Harmony 8 Pro I was really supprised how huge is the difference, it was not just a step it, it was the journey to a new experience to enjoy music.

custom-art-Harmony 8 Pro.jpg

In 2016 I got the great change to upgrade my Harmony 8 Pro to the enhanced Harmony 8.2 it was a very sweet change, in some points you can compare like it with a Sennheiser HD 800 stock vs HD 800 S (small but good improvements).

Harmony8.2.png

Later in 2016 I just missed some "fun" signature and the overall stunning Harmony 8.2 with it's balanced signature needed a new brother, so I asked Piotr for his recommendation and at this time the Ei.XX was one option, but finally it ended with a custom tuned 12 driver CIEM, called internally 'Amarok' I called it 'Tora' because of my face plates:

Tora.png

After many years of joy I required in 2020 a reshell of this two beatuies, because due my high sports activity my bodyweight changed many times. My decision went to universal fit instead of true CIEM.

Since the 12 driver model required a larger shell to fit all the drivers they made a new larger shell just for this special request, I recieved them both beatuies later and using JVC SpiralDot eartips I don't really have a real changed sound signature compared to my previous CIEMs.

Addtional to this I also got some custom made silicon Etymotic ER-4S eartips, with perfect fit. I also had a very hard request to create custom molds for my STAX SR-002 earphones and Piotr tried his best, but finally my ears are just too small to get a good (sounding) result and custom fit. Even all effort I only had to pay the shipping cost and not any of his time of work for the prototypes for this request.

What I want to say Custom Art has a really outstanding customer service and great product line with fair prices in all ranges. I just can recommend them after so many years of good expericence.

Cheers

Wow, what a journey this has been! Thank you for trusting us with your IEMs.

We are extremely happy with the shell for your 12-custom tuned model, the 3D print turned out perfectly! The shape itself also surpassed our expectations and we will save this model if any higher count IEM will be in works :)
Cheers man!

My Custom art history goes :-

Music One, Music Two, Fibae 2 (custom then reshelled to universal) Blacks and because the Blacks fit so well sent my universal 2's back to be reshelled.

I have the Ei.3 and Black, and I never tire of them. Was just listening to the Black and I am always surprised by just how musical those are and how I complete forget everything while I get carried away by the music. Funny thing is that although they are "old" I am still sorely tempted to buy the H8.2 every time I see them pop up on the for sale forum. FIBAE 7 might be the newer flagship, but the venerable H8.2 left an impression after I demoed them ages ago that has never left, much like the Ei.3 did back when I started my head-fi journey. :)
