Hi jmills8,
I prefer little bass elevation and X7II default sound is not for and I always try to boost the bass.
DX220 is out of my picture now, Cowon is the only DAP I want now. Which has the better bass (quality and definition not exactly quantity) L or S?
L has superb bass

I like both but if you like edm, trance, dance, then the S. The L has plenty of bass but it excells slightly in giving details and the 4.4 connections gives plenty of power for headphones.

If you've had it from new, you must have chosen European Country on first boot and now have the volume capped, or you bought it second hand already like that. Their is no way to change it from the GUI, you have to delete or rename the user_settings.cfg file in the system folder by connecting it to your computer. Safely eject and switch off. Then when you switch back on choose Outside of Europe. Also disable 'hearing protection' from settings.

*please note down all your settings/eq settings beforehand.

Or add an amp and blow your ear drums into space. I did it and you should too.
