do you have EL8 yourself ? if so do you like the comfort ? because i heard they are quite heavy
also how do they sound on hip hop music ? can you compare it to open version ?

and overall the open back headphones are more comfy for long usage right ? if so why not just get the open version of EL8 ? i mean do they sound that bad in hip hop compared to closed ?

I've auditioned the EL8 before. It's okay comfortable (definitely better than the helmet LCD-2s) but I feel like they would get pretty hot after a while.

I love my t5p. At first it seemed a bit of a fuller sound but I really think the amp is a big part of it.

I use a ifi micro idsd and micro ican se. Using the xbass switch gives a hard bass kick without being boomy. Much like the t1, there is texture to the bass notes.

Unamped...I don't find the t5p bassy at all, just a little warm overall

No, I do not own the EL-8. I do have a pair of LCD-X. I auditioned the EL-8 multiple times as a possible travel headphone. I listen to many genre of music going from classical and jazz to rap and EDM. The EL-8 struggled when female vocals were the focus accompanied by instruments. The balance of vocals to instruments were off. So for me, that didn't work.

The EL-8's shortcomings were not an issue when listening to rap, which is why, based on your list, I recommended it.

I can't provide any advice on the EL-8 open version headphone since I have not heard them.

As for comfort, I didn't find anything objectionable about the EL-8. They may be heavier than dynamic headphones, but compared to my LCD-X, they are rather light. Also, the weight is well distributed and I didn't feel any pressure points while using them.

One last point, if you're not limited to the list you provided earlier, I would look at the MrSpeakers Alpha Prime. At their current price they are great and would work well with your musical preference.

I have been using both T5p.2 and AKT5p for a few days now, mostly with classical/orchestral music. Neither really fit tje bill. 2nd gen T5p is simply too warm, and actually sounds congested in orchestral wide scores. Akt5p sounds better, but feels like a not properly retuned T5p original. Which takes me to the latter: would I get a neutral, more open sound with the originals, and would these fit the bill better for orchestral and classical? Many thanks!

For classical music, I rather like the results from the original T5p. It has great instrument separation and imaging. The instruments sound true and the sound stage is not cramped, which is remarkable considering their closed-ish design.

Thanks for this. Looks like I am working backwards! The AKT5p is much better than Gen 2 for classical, but still no cigar. I will try the gen 1, hopefully that will fit the bill...

Interesting, I am mostly listening to classical chamber music, tried T5p and T5p Gen 2, and compared both to my HD600. T5p is just too bright for me. Gen 2 sounded more neutral, more like HD600 but with more clarity and instrument separation. I bought t5p Gen 2 and initially wanted to return them because it was just not enough difference between them and HD600. But after 20-25 hours of listening it changed, for the music I listen to they sound to me like almost perfect.

I have the same impression as you. When I first bought the t5p 2nd gen and give it a listen, even after I burn-in for 50 hours or so, I was kind of regret my decision. it seems that I need at least a week of listening the T5p gen 2 in order to "get used to it" and fully appreciate the sound quality. It's very versatile headphone and fits for every genre IMHO. Although I think some would think it somewhat of lack of bass for Dub, UK dubstep or IDM music. But to me the bass is enough.

But for classical music I always switch to my K701, I really love its bright presentation, and I think the sound signature is more fitting for classical music. But it's just my opinion and I'm still new in head-fi haha I might be wrong :)

I think if he absolutely has to keep using that E11 amp, perhaps the T5p.2 is the way to go. It will sound great with rap, trap and whatever you throw at it.

T5p.2 is definitely the way to go with his set up. I don't know if he will necessarily appreciate them over his D2000s when listening to Rap. The D2000 has some great bass and a nice smooth sound. The T5p may sound a bit thin in comparison especially when you factor in his music preferences.

The Denon's bass is big but loose and flabby. I think he will enjoy the tighter presentation of the Beyers

I am using both Gen 2 and AKT5p with the Mojo, and can feel a clear difference between them with regards to space. Gen 2 feels more boxed in and details are taken away by warmth. I will give however chamber music a spin. Things were better with piano solo, but they get awry when moving on to orchestral. AK is the clear step up with regards to separation, but am still feeling its been designed with synergy with AK devices in mind, and the pairing with Mojo is sub optimal, as in a way exemplified by the additional connector to single ended. It is a bit baffling to have three (four, including the McIntosh) close variations of a single headphone, and have them sound so different.

Hi. Did anyone compare T5p 2gen and Fostex TH900? Are they play in one top league or one of them is in the higher class? What are the essential, fundamental differences between them? And what of them have better isolation from external noise? Eventually, I narrowed the choice down to T5p 2gen and Fostex TH900 for my Eximus DP1 (I use internal headphone amp) and have not opportunity to listen to them before buy.
