New Beyerdynamic Pro X line: DT 700 Pro X and DT 900 Pro X

Between DT770 and DT1770, DT700 feels like it has the best bass. It's less boomy than the other two and with more extension and better control.

I'm very impressed with the DT700. I was using it out and about today with a Cayin N6ii/R01 and it's a majestic pairing. Very listenable but also quite detailed. The DT700 also scales exceptionally well. With the TT2, it sounds like a headphone that costs 3 times more than its retail price.

How does it compare to something like the DT990/600? I ask about that one in particular since I have on as well. Thanks

I prefer D700. I still love the 600ohm DT990 - they're classics - but compared to D700, they lack body and the mids feel especially thin. They seem to have struck a very good balance with the tuning on the D700 - preserving what's great about the DT990/DT770, but addressing and correcting all the flaws in the FR. My only quibble is the cable, which feels a bit cheap. I'm in the process of ordering a few 3rd party cables and if they can squeeze more performance from the D700, then all the better.

So, they did not remake DT 880? That's disappointing, these were my favorite in the line >_>
I guess TYGR300R would count as their remake?
I don't think so. The Tygr uses dt990 32ohm drivers. Tonal wise it has more bass and less treble, making it warmer. The resolution is not on par with the dt880 600ohm atleast.

Edit: Added more info

Quite the opposite impressions on my side (vs 770 pro). Bass extension seems more linear and a bit deeper on 700. Less upper bass. But pretty similar. 700 feels more separated in the mids. Treble is the biggest difference for me. 700 have more extension, more sparkle, 770 seem recessed in comparison. 770 feels noticeably wider as well, 700 is quite intimate. Comfort wise, the 770 works better for me, the bigger cups just do it for me. Build from the look and feel perspective is more solid on the 700, from a maintenance perspective, I don't think you can beat 770. So until now, I don't think the 700 is an upgrade or worth the extra 120 EUR.

Yep, it's more on Utopia level of sound stage. So definitely not wide.

FR graph from Sonarworks. Looks super scary and even brighter compared to 770.

I should probably keep my Custom One

Does look scary indeed, but doesn't look like what I hear. At all.

This is why people discredit anything that comes from head-fi.org and with good reason. Beyerdynamic would not include a cable that would give such terrible performance with there own headphone. Cables are snake oil when will "audiophiles" as they call themselves understand that. Outside of different lenghts and feel a cable is a cable is a cable. Ignorance must be bliss.

Thank you for the correction; we're all enlightened now and everyone can live happily ever after.

As I have mentioned time and again - not that I have to debase myself by explaining again - my motivation to buy cables is for convenience above all else. In the case of the cable that comes with the DT700, there's nothing wrong with the sound quality, but I need a shorter cable and ideally one that feels nicer to the touch.

I hope this proves satisfactory to you :smirk:

Tale me, am I the only one that orders a DT700 without reading alle the reviews?

Just ordered one instead of a DT770... Told myself that I would use it more because of the low impedance...

I really hope it will pair well with my Fiio BTR5... Oh, and does someone know how the soundstage is compared to say a HD650?

As Mr. T would say: I pity the fool who can't hear the difference between cables! When someone categorically denies that something doesn't exist and keeps a totally closed mind about that subject, that person will never be enlightened. Supposedly we Head-Fiers are seeking the best possible sound we can find, so I prefer to keep an open mind about anything that might further that goal.

So they lost the soundstage which was one of the selling points for DT 770 ("for a closed headphone this is quite open") and 990?

Yeah I've heard the same thing about the 900 as well (not as spacious as 990). That's really a shame though especially about the 700 because that was one of the qualities that defined the 770's (apart from their amazing bass).
