HI folks.

http://www.akg.com/akg_structuretree...nguage,EN.html

Look at this.
They say these are 8 new phones. That's not the whole truth, though.

I just saw them today on the IFA and I listened to them, too.
The K301Xtra is now the K530, they just made it it of the K701 plastics and renamed it. It sounds exactly the same as the K301Xtra (which you won't find on the IFA!)

Next ist the K518DJ, the K81DJ with ja slight facelift. It has a black shiny iPod-like plastic instead of the silerisch one on the K81.
It sounds exactly like the K81 (which you find, too).

The K24P is now the K412P. It misses the yellow color but it sounds the exact same as the K24 (guess!).

Note, that from now on every AKG model has a three-digit number in the name.
They introduced some new earbuds an inears, too.

I also have a brochure where the "old" headphones are not mentioned any more. Instead there are the renamed and facelifted "old" ones, which AKG claims to be "new" headphones.

I also visited Beyerdynamic.
They finally updated the look of their other products after DT770/880/990 have been facelifted in 2005:

I think I like the new style.
They also introduced the "headzone" system you can read about in another thread.
Some Manufaktur-phones were hanging around, too.

I also spoke to a leading member of beyer about the headzone, the A1 and their top of the lines products.
And guess what, their new boss is unsatisfied with the DT990. They are already working on, or will start working on improvements (major, not minor!) for the DT990 soon. He wasn't able to tell me, because he spent the last time creating the A1 and so he wasn't sure.

I also asked him to tell me, if the new DT770/880/990 are made for 0Ohm or 120Ohm outputs or whatever. He will email me the answer after he has asked someone who knows.

I will share the answer with you, of course.

That's it. I will report on beyer's own new headamp (A1) in the ampsection now.

Oh, I did. I didn't mention it because they sounded the same, at least they fulfilled what I expected them to sound like from memory (without A/B ing, of course).
But I will ask the beyer guy on monday if there were changes in the sound, OK?

Awesome stuff, m00hk00h. I was wondering the same thing about the K518DJ cable length...but I surmise as long as they're branding them "DJ 'phones," they'll be keeping the cable "DJ length."

And speaking of facelifts, I really hope those AKG in-ears have some new drivers in them to improve upon the CX300/EP-630/MD33S sound (*please-no-sibilance-please*). This rebranding thing is getting a bit tired.

I bet at least the sound of the DT660 has been modified, going from semi-open to fully closed.

the K518DJ is going all black? that's going to make some ears perk up. personally i don't have a prob with the silver and black look of the 81, but all black is never a bad option!

Muhkuh: Thanks for the report! Must confess that I'm rather unimpressed, though - just more or less tasteful cosmetic redesigns, nothing really new... I'd at least have wished for Beyerdynamic to revert back to their older, much less bulky and heavy, but at the same time comfier and tougher x31 headband designs with the new DT440/660/860. All in all, I'd rather consider this a better milking of the cashcows than product improvement...

Greetings from Hannover!

Thanks for the pics, I was waiting for those

I don't really like the new looks of the 440/660/860, but I didn't like the old looks either. Everything is a tad to round for my taste, maybe I'm just spoiled by the 770/880/990 looks
