The results you will get between i2s and usb is dependent the usb and hdmi cables and on how silent your streamer's i2s out is vs usb. The dac itself is usually better through i2s
I will experiment between the two inputs. Some controversy for some that i2s is not good because you are taking a signal that was meant to stay internal and route no more that a few inches to external and routes up to the length of your HDMI cable. I actually prefer i2s over USB but we will see how this master clock as the primary for both the dac and streamer impacts the inputs (usb vs i2s).

Yeah, nothing like trying it for yourself. Lately, I got a Tubulus Concentus hdmi cable. I takes hdmi to a new level (but over 600$)...

I bet. For that cost I would expect that but glad it is a reality for you.

I am getting a slight “pop,” sound when I am using Qobuz over i2s from my Hifi Rose RS130 streamer only to my Audio-GD dac via i2s and the A profile. The A profile is compatible with my DAC. This only happens over i2s and not USB. It happens when a sample rate changes or when I pause the music and resume or when I manually switch from one music track to another. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Could it be that with the Hifi Rose not having a mute mechanism that I am getting these pops when sample rate changes, manually advance to the next song or pause a song and restart? I also get a high pitched sound between songs, pausing or manually advancing when playing DSD. Audio-GD said this was due to the DAC not having a mute stage so if the streamer is outputting a signal the Audio-GD will pick it up and play a audible sound regardless if it from the audio track or just an output signal. Audio-GD does not include a mute stage as they believe it degrades the sound quality.

And for the life of me I think USB actually may sound better which I can't believe I am saying as I really thought i2s was the way to go.

I have an external clock on order. Any downside using USB vs i2s when using an external clock.

I don't think their is any specific downside. The popping does not occur with volumio as sw with any of my 3 streamers, but I use the usb out. You can always get a di20he to put in between. There would be no popping then. :)

Having both the streamer and dac connected to the same clock will enhance usb. That is a long shot, but could maybe help sort the hdmi popping.

why not answer here I'd also be interested... Plus theoretically speaking would it be more of a side or upgrade to Hypsos /OOR? Substantial differences if any?

R8HEmk2 vs R-1 NOS
So far the obvious differences between the R-1 NOS and the R8Hmk2 is definitly the REG PSU.

R8HEmk2 sounds the same 24/7 every hour of the day. R-1 NOS sound great after everybody in the building is at sleep. It is the same time everytime, I catch myself looking at the watch and say R-1 sounds good. Same hour! 3 days in a row now.

For anybody wondering if the REG PSU(HE models) of the audio-gd. Yes they work as intended! = Clean power

I have nothing filtering on the R-1 NOS other than a DC Blocker. I have no clue how to approach this little box 1000hours to go atleast
