The new r7he mkii has released.

I want to apologize for saying i had the 2021 2-3 days ago. I have had the mkii for a while.

The difference with the 2021 is small in terms of performance according to Kingwa. And it is a bit more expensive. Those who bought the 2021 should not feel bad. The real deal IMO is when you aad a really good external clock to the mix. As i mentioned, the effect is really significant. And it is one really good reason to get the get the r7/he. You have a very interesting upgrade path with the ext. clock.

Got my R7-HE2021 2 weeks ago... :frowning2:
I feel bad !!!
Well, I guess the performance difference with the 2021 version is small.

The HE2021 can also support external clock but you seem to say FredA that only the Mk2 will take advantage of this ?

I will come clean as well. I traded Kingwa a Ref 10 clock last year for a future R7HE. Kingwa sent me a prototype R7HE MK2 in February 2021 for field trial and firmware development. I have been under NDA to not disclose until release. Kingwa said the R7HE MK2 has same features/ functions as the 2021 model. Same firmware. Manufacturing costs were forcing the changes.

You will notice the R7HE MK2 literature is written in better English. You can thank FredA for the edits. Good job!

This is my first HE DAC. It blows away my older M7S, S7, and R7. Why did I wait so long to try HE supplies? And external clock…. Kingwa’s propriety external clock FPGA code is something to behold with a decent 10M oscillator.

Be forewarned the MK2 takes forever to break in. I would say at least 1,000 hrs. Maybe even more. Sounded quite unnatural for many weeks but better each week.

The R7-HE21 MkII has phono simulation instead of TDA simulation.
On my R7-HE21 I'm NOT using the TDA simulation. (OS8 works really well)
How good is the phono simulation ? Am I missing something great ?
May be a new firmware upgrade will come.

No, the 2021 will also react very well the the 10M ext. clock, don't be worried.

I don't use the phono simulation, i prefer the default settings (OS8 mode). In any case, you can likely update the fw to give the phono mode a try. Ask Kingwa about this.

I noticed and thought it was your translation. :)

Good to know I'm not missing anything. :) Anyway, would my Linn DMS and Naim mono-amps show the difference with Mk2, not sure :)
The R7HE21 is really wonderful but burn-in hasn't finished yet...
Enjoy. And to get a real significant upgrade eventually, getting an ext. clock is the way to go, and not to get the mkii.
