New Audio-gd DAC-19 [10th Anniversary Edition]

Well, I just ordered a Singularity 19.  I chose the 4pc DA-M1 model and added the upgraded TCXOs (whatever they are... guess I'll find out).

Invoice said 10 days lead time, so it looks like they may still be building and burning them in.  I asked for a shipping date estimate, but I've found that sometimes I get answers and sometimes I don't when asking questions.  No response yet.

I currently have a DAC-19 (10th Anniversary) that I have not upgraded to the newest firmware.  I like the smooth sound of it so I felt to reason to change perfection.  We will see how the Singularity, with the new R2R modules and firmware, compares.

Should be fun!

EDIT:  Confirmed from Grace, 10 days lead time estimate.  Might be a close call getting it shipped and through Chinese customs before their holiday.

I taken that you will connect it to C211th using ACSS interface?

I tried to order the DAC-19 with both USB and HDMI but it would have meant losing both of the SPDIF connections according to Kingwa ... So I went with HMDI instead of U.S. as per their options.

This is the newer design, it had the IIS input interface built in ,it can addition a HDMI input replace the BNC or RCA input and become the 4th input.
It still had the had the USB, coaxial and optical inputs.

Kingwa,

That's good to know! So the big question for you - how do you think your DA-M1 module compares to the 1704UK sound-wise??? :)

Also with the I2S built in and not in a module any direct I2S connections like from the SU-1 should sound a bit better. Now that the new model can support both usb and direct I2S it would be easy to do a head-to-head comparison. I may bite after hearing some reviews of the new model.

Yes, I'll be using ACSS to connect to the C-2 and RCA to connect to the Wells Audio Milo.

For  fair compare ,I design two PCBs, one with the PCM1704, another with the DA modules, other parts are same.

Both units sound similar, the characteristic of R2R technology, not as the ES9018 flavor, also not the WM8741, AK4495 sounding.

In the theory parameter with the DA modules design, it is brighter than the PCM1704 unit, if the users consider the DAC19 had a little on warm side, then it is more neutral .
Then I change some parameter in its analogy output circuits, finally their sounding are most similar.

finally the Singularity 19 slightly more control bass and slightly better show the instruments in sound stage. PCM1704 slightly better for old female voical or jazz .

I guess the PCM1704UK may become classis like the TDA1541A, ten years ago I bought 10 PCs TDA1541AS2 from Germany, that time only USD80 / pc, few years ago some one ask me sale to him with USD800 / pc .

I still have a batch TDA1547 and SAA7350, I like their sound also.

Holy crap...double crown TDA1541A S2 $800 per pcs now. Nice to know.

Are you implementing and revive the TDA series?

I just sent a request to Grace to ask if my Singularity 19 could have the RCA coaxial input replaced with HDMI connection for IIS.  Hopefully this would allow me to have USB, BNC, Optical, and IIS.
