Non zebra wood black edition. Cool.

Interesting.!  Definitely looks like Caribbean Rosewood LCD-3 version to me...

I didn't specify anything, I guess that I have received the LCD-3 Rev.2

BTW, the pads are dark brown.

Here's a closeup picture:

Did you special order it with rosewood? It doesn't look like zebrano right there...

It's zebrano wood if you look closely at the grains. Photographing wood properly is very difficult from my experiences.

Yeah typically when I think ZebraWood:

Must be a very tight grain darker piece for the recent batch.  Still looks very nice to me however.

Agreed, that's definitely Zebrano Wood, at least from my visual perspective. Also, that is one beautiful looking piece of headwear. I may have to hold off on the HD800 for now.

Funny, it may not even be darker. My LCD-3's zebrano wood is pretty light when compared to say the LCD_2, but when I photograph it, it doesn't come out that way.

You might want to try spot meter the wood to +1 EV or +1.5 EV if the wood has a really light color. See if that helps.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try it out.

Yes I did :)

So let me ask another question, what is currently considered the best option for the LCD-3, cost no object? Liquid Fire? Dark Star? Any other?

For the options you listed, I'd also consider a B22/Sigma 22. And lucky for you, there's one for sale on the F/S thread right now by a very well respected Head-fier:

Ah i never touch the DIY stuff, had some bad experience in the past, the darkstar looks sexy but that's also a lot of $ for the case work, the LF looks 'meh' to me and I heard it's also very bright (the case not the sound) which is a problem for me since I will be using it for watching movie at night and it might be distracting...

I'm almost tempted to use the 'first world problem' meme here, have 5k to spend, don't know which amp to get...

That particular amp was overhauled by fishski13 (of http://solderworksaudio.com) and has worked flawlessly for years.

Haven't heard the Darkstar or LCD 3, but with LCD 2s I picked the LF over a fully balanced beta.

Concerning the bright red power LED. Get some black electrical tape and a single hole punch. One dot cures the problem completely.

Edit: LF gets my vote. I absolutely love mine.
