Well I would think they were alive in the 90's but I understand. And no, I would not use a credit card. I went through that and it can be a nightmare. Never again and haven't used one for years now, after finally paying off what I owed. Never again.

True. Hence, in 2031; then financial crisis is on once again and we discuss the Audeze LCD-19.

@ elnero: A nice grown-up post and a balance to the (childish / whining) remarks from others. Thumbs-up. :)

I got my Rev2s not that long ago. Audeze doesn't owe me a heads up for new products.
Companies keep their cards to their chests until deemed appropriate to show them, that is how companies work.

When was the last time Apple emailed you and told you not to buy the iPhone4 because the 4s is coming out in a month? That's crazy talk.
Would a return or price break for customers be cool? Hell yeah! Do they have any reason or obligation to do so?
Not unless your product is defective.

There are a lot of sour grapes here, if you want the LCD3, spend 2k on it. That's the price. If you want an iPhone4s, you spend the money on it. You can sell your old model used at a loss, or if it's in the terms of your sale, return for credit towards, or whatever... just like every other friggin product in the world.

Instead of reading about the LCD3 last night, I sat down and listened to The Wall on my LCD2s. It sounded screwing fantastic.
I have no desire to rid myself of the LCD2s, I'll consider the 3s or another product for a step onward, but no one owes me their business strategy so that I can do that, or so that I can maintain the title of "guy with the latest greatest".

I bet dollars to doughnuts that most people, if posed with the warning "Hey, thanks for purchasing the LCD2, we appreciate your business, but before we ship, we want you to know that we have a new model for $2K coming out in a month, do you want to wait and spend more on that?" would have declined.
We, by and largely, determine our budgets before we go shopping.

Anyways, just my 2 cents on a 1 cent issue.

The iPhone is not exactly the best analogy. I used it for a good year and you kind of know a new iPhone is about to come out if you bought it last month. On the other hand I bought my Samsung Galaxy S2 three months ago and here comes the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. If I weren't so used to carrying three phones around (iPhone, Android and BB), I would just use the iPhone, at least there   won't be a new model coming out every other month. And yes I bought myself a 4S which is on its way from the States, but still undecided on the Galaxy Nexus.

Reading through this thread I can't help but think many people are being incredibly unfair to Audez'e.

...

I just got my Rev. 2's a couple of weeks ago and just sold my Rev. 1's for over $300 less than what I paid. Am I pissed about the announcement of a new model? Absolutely NOT! Am I pissed that they didn't announce their plans earlier? Absolutely NOT! Am I pissed that I didn't know about the new model before I purchased the Rev.2's? Absolutely NOT! Am I pissed that they don't offer some sort of trade-in to recent Rev.2 purcharsers? Absolutley NOT! After all, why should they? What other manufacturer out there announces their plans to build a new model before it's ready for release? Did Sennheiser announce their plans to release the HD800 early? Did they warn new HD650 purchasers when they were buying that there was a new model on the horizon before the official announcement? Did they offer incentives to recent HD650 purchasers to trade-in and upgrade to the HD800? Has Grado ever done any of these things? AKG? Beyerdynamic? None that I'm aware of, so why are people holding Audez'e to a higher standard than pretty much every other company out there?

What's even more amazing is how people seem to even have forgotten about the last decade. Technology has become ubiquitous, yet curiously its history of rapid changes are still being ignored. It seems there are quite a few people here who have forgotten that computers, iPods, iPhones, iPads, Android phones, etc are all updated at least every year, if not more often, and definitely without their permission or even input. On top of this, the fact that they already own absurdly expensive gear (yes, to 99.99% of the world $1k is a crazy sum for headphones) seems to have further blinded them to the concept of diminishing returns, rather than opening their eyes to it. All this has resulted in whiny nincompoops who want to be able to buy the very best equipment at prices they can afford, but only after they have been allowed to offload their old versions on others (including the manufacturers) who are somehow expected to take the price hit instead. Talk about fair ....

In brief: when you bought your LCD-2 Rev 2 did you take into consideration the possibility that Audeze may come out with an improved headphone at any time? If you didn't, then I have no sympathy for you, not when the consistent pace of technological improvements in the last couple decades is right there to be observed.

I love my month-old LCD-2 Rev 2 and respect my weeks-old HD800. I still have my nearly decade-old HD600s, and am inordinately fond of my Etymotics. None of these sentiments changed after I learned about the LCD-3, because I bought my headphones because I loved their sound, not because I was some sort hifi shopping addict. My only thought right now is that I really want to listen to the LCD-3s!

(BTW, if you are an addict, stop blaming others for your habit. You can only ask for help, not demand it.)

It may not be a perfect analogy, but it communicates the point. If at this point you don't see the headphone companies striving to maintain an update/new model cycle, you aren't paying much attention. No it's not exactly the same, but there are several common elements in play.

Many were 'certain' the new iphone was going to be the 5. But the truth is the no one knew anything until Apple announced it. If you depend on rumors, and insider info for you purchasing decisions you need to be prepared to be disappointed. All we can do is buy the best we can within our budgets when we are ready to buy. Again, no one owes you their road map. Some companies choose to share them in minor or major detail, others choose not to. It's their prerogative.

Well said. Chasing the latest greatest is an interminable task. Get what you can, when you can, with the info you have, and be happy. If you must upgrade later, well, so be it, but it's at the buyer's expense, not the company's for moving forward.

Sometimes, reading all the opinions on these threads make my head spin round.
If i was a salesman at heart, if i had been looking for a good pair of headphones and stumbled upon this site, i would IMMEDIATELY see how easy it would be to make money off of members of this site.  SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
easy.  That is if i was a salesman and knew how to work the market.
Just saying.  We are like little kids lol and our wallets show it. From what i can see, we have the most addictive personalities, and it would be so easy to control you guys like puppets.
You guys will always give in. For some of us i can tell that head-fi.org is our primary social life getaway.  Some not so much and some, way to much but not so much anymore.
Our biggest flaw as a group is that we rely to much on other peoples perspective.  If there were more stores around that carried this type of equipment then we would probably not be manipulated as easy as i would much rather talk to someone in person about headphones and be able to actually hear what they were saying.  Some of us like myself, linger around for years because we are not able to to afford the gear that we want and just reading other peoples opinions is what we use to fill our hearts with satisfaction that we can only dream of.<(that should be the name of a song lol,  Satisfaction, we can only dream of. Or i instead of we.  Satisfaction, i dream of.)

Maybe, AUDEZE should offer the headphone itself without the cable for a cheaper price as a lot of people already have upgraded cables for the headphone. Also selling the headphone without the case and JUST the headphone for lets say $1700 or 1600.  That would probably make a lot of people happy.

I think the stock cables cost ~ $30-45. :P

Looks like some people are going to get some real good deals on LCD-2's at the expense people effected with upgraditis.

It probably costs Audeze $25 (x2)  for the cables and $30 for the case. Plus it will cost Audeze additional  $ for packaging if you take out the case. That will not translate into $250-350 off list price.

That would be nice, but I don't think it's going to happen.  I think the demand for used LCD-2's is still high and they are still worth the same amount because the LCD-3 is so much more expensive.  Someone buying a used LCD-2 isn't really in the market for an LCD-3.
