New Audeze LCD3

I will just have to listen to them more. Today was the first time they did this and only seemed to do it early this morning. Definitly seems like something that might become an issue down the rod. Hope not though.

^ Yah, mine had an intermittent failure, but not like yours; mine were either working or not.

My Audeze experience:

  1. LCD-2rev1: What is wrong with these
  2. LCD-3rev1: Hmmm these are not so bad, nice and smooth, even FR, nothing sticks out.  But there's also something missing here, a lack of transparency and detail, I think I like my Yamahas better
  3. LCD-2rev2: Wow these are pretty darn good headphones all in all.  Best Audeze I've heard.  Fast, transparent, detailed midrange, bottomless, tight bass, dull and not so transparent treble, but not harsh either.  One of the best headphones on the market!

This experience is subject to manufacturer variation, do not try to recreate this at home.

And I'll add to this:

  1. Excellent customer service, small American company making orthos and despite the problems I'm rooting for them more than any other headphone company.  Or at least I have been.
  2. Terrible ergonomics and no matter how good any of the revisions of any of the current models sound, I would never own one because they feel like something I have to wear at a doctors office.  And my vintage orthos are so much more comfortable despite many of them being supra-aural.

Well got to be honest, this has been one of the worse listening experiences in my short headphone life.

Just done a 2hr listening session with Leben 300xs, linn cd12 and lcd3 dated 22/2/12. It was like listening through a rolled piece of newspaper and a humid cloth all into one. Voices were far off, instruments were flat and indistinct, everything was smudgy, mush.

I got foam on mine and I can see the drivers inside through the thin layer of protection.

So disappointed, sold off lcd2 rev 1 which I loved dearly and now have nothing to show for it. Time to ask dealer for a swap or a refund.

Cant believe how bad these sound.... Even at ear piercing volume, it was all blurry and distant.

And even big companies fails.... Think Toyota brake failures.

You mean the human failures who step on the wrong pedal or layer multiple floor mats on top of each other restricting pedal depression?  Toyota is the only company I've ever seen in history who went before Congress to apologize for it's customers being stupid.  Not a good analogy.  BMW's recall of 1.3M vehicles for fire hazard seems better to me.

As for the HD800 sounding different, there is no evidence of such drastic differences and are possibly simply the result of listeners having better gear the second time around.  Just a possible thought.  Regardless, every HD800 I've ever heard still sounds like an HD800.  The Beyer T1 and Audezes have had the widest deviation of signatures I've heard of any phones I've ever tried including cheap cans.  Whether this is fixed or not is up for others to determine, I'm not throwing my hat into that ring.

Heh, that combo is not a good one. I've heard all three of those pieces. They are the last three things I would have put together. An HD800 may have fared better. It's probable your dealer had one of the "veiled" units.

I was thinking that as well but he did live w/ the LCD2 r.1 and the same chain for awhile.  His description is very much like a veiled LCD3.

Agreed. Based upon purchase date, these should go back to the dealer.

Tales of Brave Googeli...

How his naked ears were tortured by the SR-009 sweetly singing.
. Wait - i cannot let that go without its due praise.
Mf just paraphraes cream (the band) while taking a jab at googeli and his creaminess. Brilliant, mf. :D

Yeah, exactly. I loved that chain so much i got rid of all my other sources :)

However i know when to detect a bad synergy and a technical problem or a abnormal sound. These LCD3s i got, as comfortable as they were, produced terrible music, absolutely painfully bad. So badly recessed i started blaming the flu, the cables, the system synergy etc.. trying to grasp anything else than the phones themselves. I even thought that i had lived in denial with just how bad some recordings were and that the LCD3s were SO revealing that it was the absolute truth i was hearing. But after close to 30 CDs i know by heart, the only conclusion was: these phones suck, badly.

I tried it direct in my TotalDac D1 before it left my house, which is an all discrete all solid state DAC, and it was just as terrible.
