Quite possible. I've nearly decided to pick a high-power amp (DS or EF-6) to pair with the HE-6. I love how the HE-6 sounds with the Liquid Fire, but I can't help thinking that there's another level to be found...

On the other hand, if I fall back in love with the LCD-3, the HE-6 might be out of the equation entirely.

I made an A/B comparison with my hardwired HE-6 between my DS and the EF-6 last week in our meet. If you can spare the money I would go with the Ds hands down. For the price the EF-6 is a nice amp but the DS seems more powerful and clearly has a more cleaner and detailed presentation with a totally black background.

I listened to some rock on a HE-6 + Darkstar. It was awesome. I liked the LCD3 slightly better, but really that's just taste. I liked the HE90 on A-10 on the same track better than both and the HE Jades about the same as the 2 orthos.

I want an A10/SR-009 combo!!

It sounds incredible. I am going to start raising the money because is "mucho dinero" but "mucho" good sound

The Sennheiser HE90 Maxvla listened to on the A-10 would sadly cost a heck of a lot more than an SR-009. : (

Just for the record, my LCD3s are not veiled at all. In fact I needed to change to a warmer 6ns7 tube and an Anaconda VX power cord on my EMM cdp, to deal with some upper midrange glare. The LCD3s I have are actually a bit more open and clear than my LCD2 Rev2s. Overall, love them both (now that the tweaking is done). Love the rock solid detailed bass in the LCD3s  along with the palpable images and sense of substance and realistic spacing. There is an overall "rightness" to them for me. Still playing around with cables but so far the Q-audio cable is the winner. Could they be improved? Well sure, but they are the best thing out there right now for me. LCD3 serial # 2312430.

So I am gonna take it old school and complain about the comfortability factor.

I recently bought KingStyles replacement LCD-3 from Audeze and I would have to say that I am in love with their sound signature.  My problem is that I listen to headphones about 8+ hours a day while working.  After a few minutes the weight of the headphones really start to bother my admittedly sensitive head.

I am going to put on my big boy pants and see if I can get accustomed to their weight.  As of now, these are the only headphones I have listened to that I don't just sit and wish that I was listening to my speakers instead.

Thank you Sennheiser for arbitrarily raising the price of the HD800 to create market space for the HD700.  Otherwise, I wouldn't have bothered to try the LCD-3.

That's the one thing with orthos...they're not as comfortable as other headphones. I did find all of my Audeze headphones a bit more comfortable with my head than the HE-6s. But every head is different. That said, the LCD-2/3s while not comfortable, I don't find them uncomfortable after a few hours of listening. But boy do they sound great.

FWIW, the only headphones I can keep comfortably on my head for 4 hours + are the HD800s.

Orthos can be light and comfortable. The LCD-1 is (except for that enormous cable).

Sorry, I meant the newer orthos like the LCD-2/3, HE-6, HE-500, etc...

But for me the sound I hear is worth it.

Spot on! These where exactly my findings when comparing LCD-3"A" and "B". I agree on every point. At first I thought something was missing in low-mid for A (the good one), but it was probably due to the veiled high-mid and somewhat "blurred" high-bass for B that put the focus on its lower mid. When switching from B to A it was like engaging a loudness/clarity function. I also perceived A as louder than B. It was especially easy to spot the differences in the treble during my blind-tests.

These differences are more than any ear pad or cable (maybe with the exception of the "red astrachan" that I haven’t received yet) can do to the sound. I also doubt that the TP mod can convert a "B" to a real "A". IMO. I think it has to be the driver, possibly the diaphragm or the mounting of it. Ideally Audez’e should perform a short blind-test of every delivered LCD-3 and a reference.

I’m very happy with my LCD-3"A". I often fall asleep sitting in my chair while listening to LCD-3… a couple of songs later I wake up, groggy…

So I've had my LCD-3 back for almost 24 hours. I listened to a variety of tracks for about 4 hours this morning, took a nice long break, and have spent the last hour or so trying out songs that I remember sounding "veiled" two months ago.

So far, I have good news to report: the veil has not reappeared.

I hesitate to declare them "fixed" or anything like that, since it's still very, very early in the game (it took me a month of listening to declare them flawed) and the problem of the "veil" was inconsistent and hard to describe or duplicate. But all of the positives I remember loving -- smooth and detailed treble, ample and tight bass, greatly improved soundstage and imaging vs. LCD-2.2 -- are still there, just minus that wrong-sounding tonality that appeared too frequently on tracks on which the LCD-3 should have excelled.

Again, nothing definitive, but it's all positive results so far.

Did they fix your original pair, or did they give you a new pair?  If they fixed your original pair, was there any explanation of what was wrong with it?

Fixed my original pair, and have not yet explained what was wrong or what they did to fix it. There was some talk of a "newer batch of drivers" but that hasn't been confirmed.

I was frustrated about the non-explanation at first, but in a way I've come to be happy about it. It lets me just freely listen and evaluate what I'm hearing now, rather than setting the expectation that I should "hear this" because they "fixed that." It's probably not ideal as far as answering questions on this thread, but I expect more details to trickle out eventually.

OK, specific example. "Amsterdam Avenue" from Tomasz Stanko's Dark Eyes CD.

This is precisely the kind of track on which the veil would have been most prominent -- Stanko's trumpet occupies the exact part of the spectrum that I found problematic, and pianos nearly always sounded off. I'm finding the track to be very, very listenable. I'm not sure the LCD-3 would be my first choice for this track -- the HE-6 offer the kind of balance and transparency that I mostly prefer for ECM-style jazz -- but that says more about the Audez'e "house sound" than anything else.
