I was just checking out their website when I stumbled upon this product page with their "premium" DACs. They look new to me and the DAC in my Bifrost is the AKM4399. Has anyone heard these yet or are these just cutting edge?

Comparing with the CEntrance Dacmini, which uses another DAC chip from AKM, the AK4396, S16 excels. The difference is not very big but noticeable. From the low end to the high frequency, and soundstage and imaging, the S16 is a little bit better in every aspect. The bass has more extension and impact, the mid-range and high are more detailed overall. Soundstage of the S16 has more depth. The S16 simply sounds more refined overall, with better detail and control over all aspect.

I just checked those out. How much does the base unit k-01 and k-03 cost? I heard the x version will be available only overseas or it will cost $1000 to upgrade the regular k-01 and k-03. I'd prefer having a SACD player as my source over the Aune S13 because I plan on using my own amplification.

I've been pretty enamored with the way the new AK380 sounds, since I heard it at Munich.  It uses two AKM AK4490 chips - one for each channel.
