@Ichos posted here today his review of the iBasso SR-3 (it was available in his reviews site since a few days ago):

https://www.head-fi.org/showcase/ibasso-sr3.26247/review/31049/

According to his enthusiastic comments and his comparisons with various very capable headphones, maybe the NDH 30 has a true rival now in its price range for the first time. No comparison with the NDH 30 in sight though. I hope someone will compare them soon, imo this can be a hotter and more juicy topic than a NDH 30 - HD-660S2 comparison.

Curious to know if the pads on the SR-3 are the same as on the NDH30 & HD630vb as they attach the same way?

That one was/is entertaining though as they were apples to oranges with drivers from the same manufacturer, one designed to emulate near field monitoring in the studio vs a makeover of a long 20 plus year legacy, both rather equally successful in their goal, I think?

What's the point? NDH30 is about as good as you can get without going for those $4k+ cans. You can buy one from Amazon, get it delivered tomorrow and try it for free for 30days risk free. Pair it with a good NOS dac and a class A solid state with MOSFET output and you got yourself a near giant system. If you are willing to put $10k into DAC, you will for sure beat someone with $5k cans and $5k dac.

NDH30 is in a different class than S2, no point comparing the two.

we are entitled to our own opinions. you believe what you will.

Also do you have any basis for your opinion? I have tried pairing $5k cans with a cheap source (i.e., sub $500) and cheap cans with high end source. No contest.

It's not. He's right. I was skeptical too, until I heard NDH30. You can buy one pair it w a good amp and DAC, and be done.

It was too generalized, without citing specific examples.

I have the HDH30 and it is wonderfully balanced, clean and dynamic. If all one requires is neutrality and “accuracy” (whatever that is), then yes, you could be done.

yea on the expensive amp/DAC and cheap HP versus expensive HP and cheap Amp/DAC piece, i'm inclined to think the headphone/earphone makes the most difference in a set up. i kinda view that as a rule and the place to start to make most of resources.

re the NDH idk that it's just neutrality and accuracy that are the selling points. It clearly has more to offer imo, and I kind of view it has a HP w no weaknesses, which is incredibly rare in this hobby. that sounds like a lot, but from where i sit it's hard to see it another way.

'Didactic' is another word that comes to mind. This is a site where people like to discuss their impressions and subtle preferences. It's a field notorious for differences in terms of personal preference. I simply don't understand the thinking behind contributions which appear designed to close down well-meaning discussion about experience and personal preference.
