Neumann NDH 30

I got these a couple days ago. Stock tuning is quite good but they lack treble airiness and sound pretty boring.
Soundstage ist good, clean imaging, but still "in your head" headphone soundstage.
They need some more listening time but so far won't keep them. Pretty high price.

It's getting a little boring - God, thank you so much that in my childhood the bEar did not step on my Ear !!! :)
There are two options here - the first is the easiest - urgently contact the service center to replace the ears :) I mean your own ears - not headphones :)
Don't get offended - just have fun :)
We do not spoil the topic with bad reviews - this is incorrect! :)

Hello to everyone! This is my first post in Head-Fi though I follow some headphone forums since there were only a few worldwide. My adventure with headphones started since childhood (decades ago) and became more serious when Sennheiser launched HD 580 Precision and HD 650 later. I am one of the first and most "loyal" users of the HD 650 (I have two pairs, one very early pair and one made in 2021 - both in Ireland), which has offered me almost 20 years of great satisfaction! I thought I would write my first post in a HD 650 discussion but a few days ago I managed to audition carefully the NDH 30 and compare it to the 650. It was almost instant love! Everything I wanted from a substantial upgrade was there with a tremendous amount of detail and naturalness. I bought it two days later - though I was long searching something in the € 1000-2000 category. I listened with it during the last two days and can't take it off my head! Absolute joy and a sense of extreme accuracy...

My headphone amp/dac is a Lehmann Linear D II very often used with a Chord Qutest as an external dac. With the HD 650 I haven't been really able to decide which dac is the most competent. Sources are mostly a Primare NP5 streamer and a couple of CD players used as transports. In the future I am sure that the Neumann NDH 30 will prove itself as a very valuable tool for source comparisons as long as a highly musical headphone, close enough to "perfection".

Congratulations!
You have a great DAC and amplifier. And now you have the most important thing in this sequence - NDH 30
After 25 hours NDH 30 will open even more - and you won't be able to take them off your head! :)

Tried Neumann NDH-30 at AES NY 2022. Told rep they should make it in black, with upgraded, balanced inner wiring. They say it's a possibility one day. I will wait for that. Each review I have seen anywhere, even Sound On Sound mag's reviewers who tend to be very honest, are how great these really are.

Anyway. More comfortable than the NDH-20. Slightly larger pad opening, softer pads, to better reach ears of those like me who find most earcups, on most cans, don't extend far enough. The weight is good, clamp just right but again a large head, a lot of hair. They said the drivers are closer to the ears. That's vs. NDH-20 so proximity may explain slightly better treble detail, and more bass. Bass is solid but not overdone. Warmer enough for fun while still being more analytical than typical hi-fi cans. Measurements show great bass extension that's real, not rolled off and claimed flat - like Audeze often will.

Simply the best open backs, under $1000 USD pair I've heard. They'd be a great update to my Drop HD58X (that I prefer to all their 500 and 600 series). Also prefer to horribly peaky treble HD700 and the bass lacking HD800/800s). The HD820 competes, but the cups don't extend far enough for my head.

They of course nudge out a bassier - but otherwise nice Momentum 3 Wireless I have. I still have go-to closed special purpose cans to block room noise. AKG K376 for brutally honest and flat from the mid bass up to the lower highs, with an amazing low sub bass bump and sparkle ("U" shaped signature). Then the Senn HD300 Pro. Carefully but thoroughly bent to reduce the brutal clamp and get them to extend far enough to my ears. They're truly flat & have the most gentle dip in the pain area of the high mids, resulting in accurate ease - honesty, with great treble air and a surprising sub bass extension.

Finally, rare gem with a mod. Audio Technica ATH-SR50, wired, NOT the wireless. $129 USD, Amazon. Get $20 Meze Standard pads, NOT the small. Best sub bass of all AT now. 3D staging. Forward lifelike mids, cool high mid dip for long use / no fatigue and still accurate enough. Clear highs. Indestructible.

Just recently had the NDH30 brought to my attention.....had a short 20 min. or so audition but will need a further listen next to my HD800S and AKG K872s...overall impressions not bad, sitting somewhere between the 2 with a tad better base extension....but yes, black and balanced would make them more appealing.

They are balanced internally. They have pure stereo sound separation, no crosstalk.
Pay attention to the cable:
The straight, symmetrical cable is internally balanced to minimized crosstalk:

But yes, the black version would be much cooler!!
I think it will happen soon as in the case of NDH 20 Black Edition:

Interesting. Thanks. I'd thought that since the stock NDH-20 silver originals were not balanced internally, the $100 more expensive black upgrade NDH-20 were advertised for being internally balanced wiring, that the NDH-30 would follow that plan. Start out silver with unbalanced wiring, offer black and balanced wiring for $100 more later on. That really is good to know besides design, larger ear cups and being open, balanced internal wiring on the NDH-30 could also be part of why they sound better than the NDH-20.
