What I don't get, if the starter of the thread posts he is looking for cans for around $100 it seems that half the posts are recommending cans that are 3x or more expensive then his original goal.

I have listened to the AKG K271S. And overall I thought it sounded okay. There were some minor flaws but I thought it sounded fairly good until I looked at the price. $200 for these cans? No way--for that price they have honky mids and sibliant, poorly represented highs. Plus they must be paired with a meaty amp to get any bass power. Actually my eH350 sounds smoother and more realistic.
