So why do you think you need an amp if you haven't even tried the dap with your phones yet?

My Dx50 drives my mad dogs quite well. There's probably a half a level difference between using my mad dogs straight out of the dx50 and amped with my iBasso PB2. So try it unamped first

IMO the inbuilt amp on the DX50 powers my mad dogs better than even the C5 which I just sold

Because I've done an a-b with someone else's dap already :)

You've done an ab with the DX50?

With and without an amp yes, I didn't hear that much of a difference with low-impedence cans (Momentum etc) but when I tried something like the HD 600 there was an audible difference and I suspected that they weren't been driven properly with the in-built DX50 amp.

All my cans I've got at the moment are orthos which are pretty low impedance at about 35 Ohms but still they're not easy to drive to get decent volumes. The C5 I had could not drive my cans to listenable levels but the DX50 can drive them (mad dogs and HE500s) at IMO, to similar levels to my PB2 and to 90% SQ.

I have a Hd600 coming in the mail so I'll know what you're going through by Monday

Hmm ok then I'll try and use my own DX50 then and then I'll make my decision, thanks for the help anyways :)

Edit:

Ok I'll be looking forward to your experience with the HD 600.

The PB2 is said to pair well with the mad dogs and it did when I was driving it via using the iphone4s as a DAP. I bought the DX50 as an upgrade DAP and use the PB2 to amp the output but after listening to the mad dogs from the DX50 alone its reaches 90% of the SQ and loudness levels of the PB2, IMO. So no real need for my PB2s now. I still might keep the PB2s because I have the HD600s coming in the mail and the DX50 may be insuffient to drive the high impedance cans
