(SOLVED) I'm trying to use ASIO in foobar with my Asus Xonar Essence STX.  I installed the ASIO plugin for foobar.  When I try to play something I get "Unrecoverable playback error: Starting ASIO failed : Hardware not present".  Any ideas?

Have you added the Xonar STX device in 'Asio Virtual Devices' of foobar configuration?

Close all unnecessary programs (firefox, communicators, last.fm and others) restart foobar and play music.

Yeah, I don't have anything else open and disabled Windows sounds.  If I try 16 or 24 bit, I get "Unrecoverable playback error: The ASIO device does not support specified sample rate (96000Hz); please configure resampler appropriately".  If I then add a resampler DSP, I get the same error, but with the resampler sample rate.

Have You installed beta drivers for STX?

Is the sample rate in your Xonar Control Center set to 96kHz (which is the default value set by the driver)? Change that to 44.1kHz and it should work.

Go to your Mixer. Click the Recording button. Make sure you are not monitoring the Mic, Aux or Line In ports. This solved the problem for me.

The problem was fixed.  I didn't fully uninstall the old non-ASIO driver before I installed the new one.
