Soundstage is the depth and positioning of sound I believe (hard to explain). Some people like a closed intimate sound stage, some like it in the middle, others like it airy. But I think the M50 is fine for the music you listen to.

 

Yea that's what I thought soundstage was which is why I said surround sound since I didn't know what other better you could use

There's a review comparing the M50s and the Ultrasone HFI 580 (which according to Ultrasone, has the same SQ as the DJ1).
 
I'd try to listen to them if I were you, though from what I've read, they need an amp to fully shine.
