I haven't heard any Schiit gear myself so I can't comment on that part but the headphones are what makes the biggest difference so I would start looking there. Can you return your DT990's? Sure you could remove some of the siblance with a tube amp and add somre more bass but I doubt it would be enough to satisfy your needs. I would buy another headphone honestly if it was me.
