I'm getting back into the head-fi business after a 2 year hiatus.
I've so far gotten a Nuforce uDAC-2 for use out of my laptop, outputting to Klipsch 2.1 Promedia speakers.
I also decided to buy the Fiio E5 on eBay just because it was so cheap. My friend has the same setup and his speakers sounded better when going from PC --> uDAC-2 --> Fiio E5 --> speakers.

Now I need some suggestions on what headphones would fully utilize the equipment above. Trying to stay around $100... definitely no more than $200.

Thanks!

Can't say for  sure yet... I just know my friend's speaker sounded a lot better (tighter bass) when using the E5. Again it's almost redundant but I got it anyways b/c it was practically a steal

As far as closed cans are concerned, on the low end of your budget, the Audio Technica ATH-m50 represents a great value.  If you max your budget, you can often find the Denon AH-D2000 for just under $200.  They're a great set of closed all-rounders, and didn't sound half bad out of my uDac2.  As a side note, I think you might find that the uDac2 actually does a better job of amping your cans than the Fiio E5.

Assuming price is equal for these three, would the general ranking from worst to best be:
Audio-Technica ATH-M50, Beyer DT770 Pro 80, Denon D2000?

Thought it over, and now open to both open & closed headphones. Really thinking about AD700, but lack of bass worries me.
Really looking for something with decent bass, mids, and soundstage. Is Beyer DT770 my best bet?

The AD700's lack of bass should concern you. The 770 is a mushy fart cannon. The M50 will give you the best balance and sound quality under $200. The DT990/250 is on Amazon for $180, which is a great price for that headphone. The D2000 is rarely under $200, so probably out of your budget.

DT990... interesting. Didn't realize it was within the price range. Would the uDAC-2 properly drive it though?
