Hey everyone,
 
I'm looking for an upgrade from my AD700 based on some criteria:
 
1) ~$300 maximum
2) Open/Semi-open with soundstage >= AD700
3) Bass > AD700
4) Cups big enough to fit around 1/2" gauged ears (I've had a hard time figuring out relative size from comparison pictures, but my ears are a bit too big for m50 pads)
5) Fairly crisp, fast sound for EDM and DnB
6) Super comfortable because I wear my headphones 6+ hours a day
 
I'm mostly looking to use them for music, but I also play video games. They don't need to be "gaming" headphones per se because I don't usually play FPS. Three that I've read about that really stood out to me were the DT990, Q701, and Philips X1. I'd love to hear some thoughts on those and any other suggestions if you have them.

Thanks! I tried to do as much research as I could, but having only really heard one pair of decent headphones I'm really not qualified to make the best decision here =(. I imagine any of the ones I mentioned would technically satisfy my criteria, but I really want to find the pair that will be my all-around headphones for the foreseeable future.

From what you are needing I would say you have made some good choices. Top of the list I would do the DT 990 because of the video games. You will get more clarity in the lows and sound effects in the video games with the DT 990.

Sorry I just saw you wanted all around. If portable and travel are in this then those are poor choices because every one else will hear what you hear. Might make people angry

I probably should have clarified my usage of "all-around" when I was saying that. I really just meant using them for music, video games, TV, VoIP, etc. I wouldn't dare bother people with open headphones in public =P

Then I would go with the DT 990. Another option would be the sennheiser HD598. They are good all around for what you want.

+1 DT990, the DT990 has more "life" (bass & treble) in it's audio, the HD598 would be closer the to AD700 type sound (but better then the AD700).

Id recommend the MDR MA900 or Beyerdynamic DT880 250 ohm.

Exactly. We are on the same page. It seemed like he enjoyed the AD700 but wanted an upgrade. Hence my suggesting the HD598.

I love the DT 880 250 Ohm but he would need something to drive them. Video game console is not going to do them justice. Also I found them to be about equal bass to the AD700. He wants more.

Haha, yeah. That was probably an unnecessary criteria, but I wanted to make sure I didn't somehow get a pair with less bass.

Looks like most people are suggesting the DT990! How will they match up with a cMoyBB?
