I didn't get a response in the recommendations thread, so I will try in a thread.
I currently have the original Bose AE, and they are finally completely falling apart (pads and wire coming loose). I have been reading on here for the last few hours and have seen a ton of recommendations, looking to upgrade around the $125-150 range but have also looked up to $200 if the $50 makes all that difference.
I mostly just listen to my iPod and occasionally music through the computer and some occasional gaming. I mostly listen to heavy metal and rock, but I am not too picky on having insane bass. I think I would prefer a more balanced sound. I would like the sound to be isolated and have minimal sound leak if capable, like to listen to music at work. I also have quite a large head.
Some of the headphones I have been looking over in the forums:
Audio-Technica ATH-M50S
Audio-Technica ATH-A700X
Audio-Technica ATH-A900X
KRK KNS8400
Shure SRH840
At first I was sold on the ATH-M50 and then I read the reviews of people saying they are over rated, so I started looking at the ATH-A900x. So my head is spinning....haha
