Fix your budget first then troll ebay for something vintage that fits your size, power and $$ reqs.
You really don't need anything fancy to get some really nice results in nearfield use and mixing and matching components can get quite fun and addictive.

The Minimus 7s are a great start and any amp pretty much will give you results that will be very hard to beat at your price point.

Btw, if you're into DIY, I suggest upgrading your caps. 20yr old caps tend to be not in the best shape.

caps? what are those? and how hard would replacing them be?

Um... capacitators? You will need soldering skills which I am guessing you don't have since you didn't know what caps were...

No, I don't think it makes it THAT much better. I mean, you're not getting a new amp or something. But it will provide some cleaner power.

So, someone outbidded me for the minimus, what do you guys think about the Sony SS-B1000 Speakers? Brand new, great reviews, and the price is great.
