Grado RS1...

Is more upfront than the laid-back Sennheiser HD600, and I have found, after going through many different cans, that the upfront nature of the RS1 suits me the best...

Although, the Sennheiser HD595 sure looks tempting

Grado HP-1000's- the way dynamic headphones should be, now if only i could get a pair at their retail price

Sony MDR-F1- everyone hates them but i got a pair for 10$ once and found them amusing.

Sony R10 - Yeah they arent perfect. Still pretty damn enjoyable though.

Stax SR-404's & SR-Lambda- best value in headphones, period

Stax Omegas-doesn't get much better

Koss KSC-35 - Yeah they probably sound good by accident. Who cares, they rule.

hands down the Sennheiser HD650!!!
simply the best, in my book, for anything and everything.

before the 650's, i choose the Ety ER-4S.

I liked the original Grado Headphones, the ones with the phase switch, that I originally saw in 1987 at the Santa Monica Stereophile show. I heard the Stax lambda pros the same day, I ended up with the Stax. I just got the Stax SR-404 and they are turning into a worthwhile replacement.

I think that the Stax SR-003 represent one of the better values in headphones. I sure like them, especially when you take the drivers off the headband and stick them in the ear canal.

For isolation I like the Etymotic phones.

1) Senn HD650 (Own)
Great balance of sound. Not too foward and not too laid back.

2) Senn HD580 (Used to Own)/HD600 (Own)
My favorite until the HD650 came along.

3) Ety ER4s (Own)
Amazing detail and provided great isolation but lacked bass.

4) Grado SR225 (Own)
Great impact but a bit colored and lacked soundstage.

5) Audio Technica W1000 (Heard)
Good detail, great soundstage but is colored and felt that the vocals were a bit recessed.

6) Ety ER6 (Own)
Detailed and was more musical than the 4s but high was a bit much sometimes and still lacked bass.

7) Alessandro MS-1 (Heard)
Didnt hear it for long but it was a bit too foward... liked the SR225 more.

8) Grado SR325 (Heard)
Great imaging and impact but was just too bright for my taste.

9) AKG K401 (Heard)
Great soundstage and has balanced sound but lacked a lot of bass.
