Mytek Brooklyn Thread

That's great information. I'll be sure to check it out this weekend.👍🏽

EDIT: Started reading the thread over on the Roon forums. The OP is furious. Oh, my! 😳 He is going off on Mytek. Michal, of Mytek, responded saying that the OP wasn't being fair by posting publicly and saying that there are two sides to every story (there are). But the OP countered everything that Michal said. I haven't read it he whole thread, but it is interesting. I really want the BB2 and the Amp+ but now I feel uncertain about moving forward. I'm wondering if I go used would I be getting someone else's lemon? People seem to like the devices but hate the customer service.

Started having flashbacks to my first stereo system. I had a receiver that developed a short in one of the channels and took it back to the dealer twice to complain (dealer 3 hours from college). Each time when we connected it it worked fine. The second time I still complained and they let me substitute it for a similarly priced floor model of another brand. Similar problem with my Realistic (Radio Shack) speakers. They would occasionally short out. Took those back two or three times for repair. The last time they replaced the woofers with better quality woofers. No more issues and they sounded much better. The only piece I didn't have a problem with was the turntable. I don't want to go down that constant service path with Mytek.

2nd EDIT: I finished reading the thread Mytek Service Sucks over on the Roon forums. Wow! JohnSherlockHolmes is hot. He read Michal, from Mytek, the riot act. Without rehashing the whole thing Michal apologized for the mishaps with receiving the return for service and offered a label to return his Brooklyn again at Mytek's expense. As it stands it doesn't seem like JohnSherlockHolmes wants to return it. It seems like he is just going to take the loss, though that is speculation on my part. Maybe he plans to have someone else service the device. I don't know 🤷🏽‍♂️ for sure. What I do know is he is MAD.

In spite of all of this I'm still interested in the BB2 and Amp+. Though I might wait awhile and not rush into it. We'll see.

Sometimes it's hard to judge a product or service totally on forum posts alone. Customers with issues have a tendency to be more vocal than customers who love their device or the service that they received.
I haven't read the thread but if his experience was anything like mine then he should be mad. In my case there was not too sides to the story, there was me getting in contact with them, them finally responding and saying they would provide follow up details to return the device for repair, and then them ghosting me for months. All other manufacturers I have dealt with direct in this industry have been outstanding (Chord, Audeze, Abyss etc). I really think the Brooklyn Bridge is an incredible device for the price, esp used. It is mind blowing that they just don't get the customer service side of the equation.

Have you read the thread on Roon Community with the title

Mytek Brooklyn Bridge II with Roon... is it ever shipping?

There are more than a few people who are far from happy with Mytek, some placed orders for BB2 two or three years ago and still waiting for delivery and are thousands of dollars out of pocket.

The thread is currently 240 pages and I haven't read it in a while but I remember the thread took a bit of an astonishing diversion when Amir (the founder and main reviewer of the Audio Science Review site) totally trashed the BB2 in a review which then made it's way on to the Roon Community forum. Michal wasn't happy (and thats an understatement) and started criticising Amir's method of reviewing equipment to which Amir then replied and a verbal tennis match then ensued over a multitude of posts. The Roon mods then created a sub thread called Audio Science Review Discussion as the discussions between Amir and Michael were diverting the conversation away from the main BB2 thread.

I have had Mytek gear in the past and had absolutely no issues, their product is excellent in my experience. I wish you luck if you decide to purchase.

I saw the thread, but I haven't read it yet. I don't know how they can stay in business if they are not fulfilling orders for two and three years. That is astonishing. :astonished: How do they keep the lights on? I'm starting to think about the Auralic Aries S1, but then I need a DAC. It would be a more expensive option. I still like the styling and the formfactor of the BB2 and the Amp+. Maybe I bite the bullet and pray for no issues. Servicing sounds like a nightmare.

Given that service from Mytek seems to leave a lot to be desired, are there any 3rd party repair facilities that have developed a reputation for doing good work with Mytek products? Then again, it sounds like there also might be an issue with parts. If Mytek can't work with their own customers, I doubt that they would get parts to repair facilities.

It's a quandary with the Mytek. Their kit gets a decent reputation as far as I can see, and I don't think they have a particularly bad reputation as far as their equipment breaking down goes, but I guess there is always a risk when buying any hifi equipment.
Have you thought of getting a Network player with a built in DAC? There are many excellent options out there. I have the Cambridge Audio EXN100 which is slighly cheaper than the Auralic Aeries and has a DAC. It is Roon Ready and has Qobuz, Tidal,Airplay, Chromecast etc built in.
There is a review of it (and the EXA100 amp)on this site by Ed Selley

Thanks for the suggestion, but my fascination with the BB2 is such that it is the only streamer core/DAC combo that I would consider. :L3000: Like I mentioned, I've started looking at the Auralic Aries S1, with the external PS as well. I prefer the idea of choosing my own DAC, generally speaking.

Yep I get you. I do the same myself. I have a Musical Fidelity M6x DAC that I sometimes use in my system as well. I mix and match streamers and DACS and sources regularly.

Do you know if it is possible to disable the DAC of the EXN100 so I can combine it with my own DAC or is that not possible/generally a bad idea?
Yep you can, that's what I do. Just run a digital cable from the EXN100 to your DAC. I've supplied the relevant instructions from the manual below(minus the pics, but you can see them in the full manual.)

Digital Connections
There are two digital connection options for the EXN100.Note: If using either of the digital outputs of the EXN100, the digital signal will bypass the DAC in EXN100 and will instead be processed by the unit connected to the digital output, E.g., EXA

Digital Coaxial Output
Digital Coaxial connections are commonly used with CD players and amplifiers and are recommended for use as they have a higher bandwidth.

TOSLINK Optical Output
Whilst having lower bandwidth than coaxial cables, TOSLINK Optical connections are commonly found on televisions, DVD players and A/Vunits.
