My one headphone to rule them all (LCD2, 007MKII, ED8, T1, JH-16)?

I think you nailed the T1 description (from my limited experience with it, of course).  However the HD800, whether you like them or not, is miles away from the HD650.  There is no veil, no lushness, no blurred edges at all with the 800s.  The 650s have never fatigued anyone.  The 650s soundstage doesnt compare.  Truly, their entire sound signatures are worlds apart!

Guess what I still wonder is if the 800 is really that far from the 650 "sound" of great texture and richness if a little recessed treble and if the T1 is not still the 880 "sound" of being neutral if a little bright while being compressed robbing the music of energy?  In 06 it was a no contest for me, the O2 just destroyed both.  Just wonder sometimes if the 800 or T1 can compete?

How many headphones have you heard to make such a statement?

I tend to agree that there are older models, no longer available, which need to be considered. In my case,I find the Stax Sigma/404 to be a worthy challenger to the Stax 007's.  Not only is it not currently made, it was never made, since it is a user modification of a basic Sigma.

It lacks some of the definition and detail of the 007's but exceeds the 007 with the naturalness to its soundstage.   No other phone comes close to this, except the non-stat AKG K1000.

If my house was burning and I could only grab one phone, it would be the Sigma/404.  The 007 A would end up as a cinder.  Of course it is a lot easier to get a replacement 007 than  a Sigma/404.

Overall, I don't subscribe to the notion of one phone which slays the rest.  Tastes of listeners  are just too variable, sources matter as does type of music listened to.

T1 is almost opposite from 880. They don't have super detail or wide soundstage like HD800, but more balanced across the range. T1 also not perfect, I wish they are little more dynamic.

Lunatique - I quickly scanned the posts and don't think I saw reference to the prince of dynamics the AKG K1000
(we'll leave dynamics king as the current reigning Sony R10

The R10 that Ray Samuels or Mikhail has would be my one phone to rule them all.  I haven't heard any others, but have read that they come in bass-lite and bass-heavy versions.  I'll have whatever they're having.

So confused.  I wrote, "If the T1 is not still the 880 "sound" of being neutral if a little bright while being compressed robbing the music of energy?"  Two people nodded yes thats still true.  Then Sea says he didn't much like the 880 and that the T1 is NOT like the 880 so not like that line.  Untangle the web please =)

You can only untangle it for yourself.  It seems there isn't consensus on this topic (what a shock

Between any two head-fier's there will be at least three conflicting opinions on any one subject.

You seem to do quite well!  I think perhaps English is a secondary language for some others too.
