Oh, well. I have to stop buying el cheapo LED's.

I read an LED's datasheet and it said the maximum lead solder temperature was 260 degrees C for five seconds. Maybe you overheated them?

Wow.

Are LED's really that fragile?

Makes OP Amps look like tanks in comparison.

That is one of the reasons I like VCC solder less mounting system.
(quick change LEDs)
But I can't say that I have ever had a problem with overheating LEDs when soldering them before.

Were did you get them from Ebay?
Cause those are pretty reliable....

Most were brand new from Digikey, others were older ones I bought from various electronics parts stores locally.

Anyone know a source in the US for a Conrad # 522945 - I5 ?

Like this
Sweet looking case but they don't ship to the US.

What did you put your Dynahi in? I want this case:

They've ignored my emails, so I'm guessing they won't ship to the USA.

at http://www.reichelt.de you get it (order no "GEHÄUSE EG 2" ) for 8,25 EUR ( = $12), also very nice case: "GEHÄUSE EFG 1A". Don't know if reichelt ships to the US, shipping via German Post in an envelope should be around 10 EUR ( = $15 ), UPS 2 day delivery $45

Ed:
I used a a pair of 3" tall 20 series par metals cases for the first two Dynahis.
If I had them to do over again I would prolly use those shiny ones with wooden side panels
(formated my system last week and forgot to back up my links folder as well)

That case is perfect though.

steinchen: thanks for the tip.
I was looking at that other case as well on the Conrad international site.
I just might just order a bunch of them at that price.

just called reichelt.de (got an order running atm)
reichelt ships to the US, but:
minimum order 100 EUR
shipping (up to 10Kg) 73 EUR
fee for paying in advance 20 EUR (have to if outside Germany)
+0.8% insurance
-16% German tax
+ ??% US tax
+ $ ?? US bank fees for sending money to Germany

you could organize a group buy to split the 100 EUR ( = $150) shipping costs, small shipments should be handled by a German resident
