Even did the 20Gb upgrade that required low level hex edits.
Volume was low, UI was difficult but I could go on holiday with my music collection.

4 AA batteries lasted about 1.5 hours, but it worked.

Sold the concept to so many friends.

Nearly bought the Unix car unit from a local company but they got bought out and stopped production.

The rest is history.

Archos Jukebox Recorder v.2, maybe 2002.

Rockboxed it, of course. It still works fine though it only gets about 3 hours off the battery. It has the most powerful output of any digital player I have.

MPIO DMG something or other. Circa 2002, 64mg storage, upgradable to 128mg using a Multimedia flash card! How archaic! It did manage to handle 2 months of backpacking around Europe.

How much do you think the 28 songs I could fit on it got on my nerves by the end of that tour

A 6gb Creative Nomad Jukebox back in 2004 for me. Upgraded the hd to 20gb and it still works fine.

In the opening months of 2003, I got a 2nd generation iPod "for Windows." Apart from the terrible battery situation (e.g., running down when not used for several days), it was a promising start for me (and Apple).

My first Mp3 palyer was Sony MD walkman NWMD 70 i think. It was awesome and sounded good. The only problem was that you had buy those MD disks and used ATRAC format. From 2003 i am using rio Karma and it is going strong. Just placed an order for the latest sony walkman player Sony NW A729. This player sounds awesome when i heard it a Best buy and sony style
