I guess CD3000 might be too expensive for most wallets. I wrote in the introduction that the headphones are limited to <300$. sorry for that

about the ksc35: i should have written in the intro that the poll is about medium to full sized headphones.

HD600s are the most comfortable I've owned, followed by Grado SR225s with a bent headband and bowl pads. The Grados win in having less weight on the head, but I prefer the Senn's circumaural fit and padded headband.

HD600s are very comfortable.

Stax SR303s are also surprisingly comfortable (but terribly ugly...).

I have tried MDR-F1s a couple of times. They did not sound bad but the sound was very dependent on their positioning. I did not manage to get it really right with them: either the bass or treble was lacking.

You have not mentioned the Philips SBC HP 890 headphone. Very comfortable, similar I would think to the Sennheiser HD600 (which I don't have much experience with). Velvety circumaural pads.

The Philips headphone has good sound quality at a relatively low price (at least in Europe). Unfortunately it also has some problems with the build quality (search this forum for the details).

----

however, i would have hoped that there would be more head-to-head comparisons between the mdr f1 and the cd780

and i am pretty scared by the huge number of grado fans

I chose the K401/501 from the existing choices, but the K240s (M, DF & S) as well as the Beyerdynamic DT531 are also very comfy and should probably be added to the options...

Greetings from Hannover!

1. MDR-F1 (invisible with suede padding)
2. K501 (cool earpads and almost invisible)
3. CD780 (like wearing marshmallows)
4. DT531 (famous Beyer velour)
5. A1000 (best wing system and breathable pads)
6. A900 (best wing system and less breathable pads)
7. DT250-250 (2nd-tier Beyer velour)
8. MDR-V6/7506 with Beyer DT250 Pads (almost as good - it should be with the same pads!)
9. W2002 (2nd-tier wing system and leather pads)
10. W100/W1000 (2nd-tier wing system and less-comfy pleather pads)
11. K240S (nice headband, pleather pads are OK)
12. DT880 (top-tier velour pads but headband can burn after a while)
13. HD580/600/650 (nice velour pads but clamping force can be painful)
14. Grado RS1 with Vwaps (leather headband, light-weight wood cups, the soft Senn pads offer the best comfort)
15. Grado RS1 with Flats (the best compromise between comfort and sound, IMO)
16. Grado RS1 with Bowls (like wearing brilla pads

)

I'm sure I left some important ones out!

that was really helpful!

I wonder, out of all the people who voted: would they have voted the same way if they had ever tried the MDR F1?? maybe the poll's outcome then would be a 90% MDR F1 and 10% hardcore grado fans...
