Question for the Russian tube lovers - I have a handful of '74 Reflektor SWGP silver shields, but one grey shield. Is there a big difference between the two? I don't know whether this lone tube is going to be 100% compatible.
Does the ‘grey shield’ tube have a SWGP?
Is the ‘grey shield’ tube a 6N23P like the ‘silver shields’? If so, it should be electrically compatible. Whether it is sonically compatible depends on what you hear with it installed alongside a ‘silver shield’.

It’s identical swgp, 100% identical except the shield color. Funny they made both in the same year.

Found a few new bands / albums on Amazon Music HD, and sitting down to for a grind on Diablo 4 Server Slam weekend, enjoying my M1570 / Liquid Platinum combo. And my Tiger ICE v2 Dots came in today, so I can test them on my Razer Atlas glass mat.

I have an exceptional sounding modded dac that can be run SE or balanced. I have been using the dac balanced output and was pleased with the sound. I have been running balanced in, balanced out, experimenting in with tubes and I got a new pair of XLR cables I tried. I am thinking I cannot do much better.

But I hooked up a used MMB1 I had bought to the LP to test the dac. Well I liked the sound of SE MMB1 better. A lot better. I then tried the modded dac SE and again I preferred SE. I tried my MMB2 and still preferred SE to balanced. I think balanced thins the sound and tips the sound slightly towards the treble with the dac I have. So, for all those thinking they need a balanced dac for the best sound .... maybe not?

I still prefer the balanced headphone output especially with my planars. The extra power does wonders for the bass and dynamics.

Installation of the RCA ‘cleartop’ ‘long-plate (17mm)’ ‘side D-getter’ 12AU7s in Liquid Platinum:

I got the Brimar 4003 Platinum grade tubes from Upscale and adapters from elsewhere. They are absolutely phenomenal with the Meze 109 pro. Not as good as with the LCD-X. But the Telefunken and Gold Lion tubes are phenomenal with the LCD-X but the Meze 109 Pro is not. The 4003 Brimars are nuts with the Meze 109.

Liquid Platinum, with the RCA ‘clear top’ 12AU7s now nicely warmed up, is fantastic in its music conveyance - with Focal Clear (original).

For those contemplating using 12AU7 (ECC82) tubes via adapters in LP, a pair of RCA ‘clear tops’ is an excellent choice. The sound is clear, detailed, full-range, layered, open; and the tubes are not outrageously priced.

Is ten hours enough for tubes to change noticeably with some characteristics? I mean it has to be. Because now these Brimars are very satisfying with the LCD-X where with their first hour, they were not. at all - sounded kind of messy and not cohesive. Now they are so well put together. Also they are quite nice to look at

… let your ears be the judge; ten hours would seem to be sufficient - to get the tubes at normal operating temperature, to burn off any filament impurities etc. NOS tubes may have been dormant / idle for 45+ years.

Thanks. I knew what my ears were telling me but didn't know it could be that drastic.

These tubes are phenomenal. They have great sound quality, solid base impact along with great detail but never sharp or harsh, and are without a doubt more holographic/ larger soundstage than the Telefunken or gold lions
