Monoprice Monolith AMT Headphones

I have the DT-1990 and M1070/M1570 and the AMTs easily outperform them for layering and imaging, let alone detail.
I was really eyeing the M1570 before the AMTs went on sale because I have M1570c. I ended up getting the AMT but I'm still looking to get the M1570.

I'm very certain that one day I'll pick up the LCD-X (or possibly Hifiman Arya). Do you think it's worth getting the M1570 still? If it doesn't compete well with the AMT then I don't know whether it's worth getting. I'm under the belief that Monolith won't restock them anymore at some point considering the sales they've been doing and some items now being out of production, so maybe it's FOMO...?

Also are the headband and earpads real leather? Should I be using leather conditioner?

Yes, the padding and cups are leather, and I use leather cleaner on them.

The M1570 are worth having if you get them on a good sale. I believe they are based on GP's GL-2000. They use the same balanced cable as the AMT. They have good performance, but they also have that typical Wall of Sound that headphones have, which the AMT rectifies.

As for restocking, I know that parts became an issue during COVID for many of their products, and maybe sales aren't as good as they hoped. I will be sad if they decide to close off that part of their offerings, as I see them as a means of getting GoldPlanar products at a discount. :)

This EQ came from a Redditor who owns the AMT, thought I'd share in case this helps inspire someone

Code:
Preamp: -6 dB
Filter 1: ON LSC Fc 105.0 Hz Gain 5 dB Q 0.70
Filter 2: ON PK Fc 22.4 Hz Gain 7 dB Q 1
Filter 3: ON PK Fc 70 Hz Gain -4 dB Q 1.85
Filter 4: ON PK Fc 80 Hz Gain -1 dB Q 1.3
Filter 5: ON PK Fc 740 Hz Gain -2 dB Q 1.60
Filter 6: ON PK Fc 1400 Hz Gain 1.6 dB Q 3.2
Filter 7: ON PK Fc 2510 Hz Gain 7 dB Q 4
Filter 8: ON PK Fc 4226 Hz Gain -7 dB Q 6
Filter 9: ON PK Fc 6514 Hz Gain -1 dB Q 4.2
Filter 10: ON HSC Fc 10000.0 Hz Gain 3 dB Q 0.70

It's a tighter sound, and I prefer to disable the 4.2KHz notch EQ he applies. Kind of reminds me of Hifiman tuning, and a bit more intimate stage.

Just got these headphones and I'm quite impressed. At first I was not used to the unique presentation of the music but the more I listen the better It gets. My only complaints are the bass roll off and the vocals being a bit further away. Technicalities are pretty good for the price. EQ is definitely a must since for these!

yeah sub bass. Don't get me wrong, bass is still deep and punchy though. It reminds me of what a dynamic can do with bass. Planars are the best when it comes to bass in terms of achieving the lowest bass notes.
I have planars, and the AMTs are digging even deeper, as they're rated to 10Hz. The performance in the subbass reminds me of a good sealed subwoofer. What EQ are you using? Do you have a good seal on your noggin? What amp are you using?

I agree with @Fibre101 here in that the AMT's are light in the sub bass, it's one of the reasons I sold my set not long after getting them. And I also agree that planars are able to go much lower and hit much harder than the AMT's. I tried using both physical and sofware based EQ and before the AMT could even come close to the lows my planar headphones would produce they would start clipping. And as far as amp goes, I was using my Emotiva BasX A100 with the jumpers in place so I had plenty of power to spare. But, I think I said it somewhere earlier in this thread, maybe there is some unit variation present in the AMT's and what myself and @Fibre101 experienced isn't the same sounding headphone @Chastity is experiencing. That or we just like way more sub bass, lol.

I agree. Having an AMT is like a different flavour to my collection. I've listen to many planars and dynamics and although there are some drawbacks for some more than the others, I still think AMTs are capable for more laid back sessions. These AMT's are not aggressive at all.
