Monoprice Monolith AMT Headphones

These wouldn't fit but they're the type I'm looking for. I'm hoping to find some velour & some perforated pads (+ full leather) but so far I've found nothing on Aliexpress with the same dimensions. The Goldplanar 850 came with a full leather and perforated hybrid pads, a reviewer said they preferred the perforated more. I imagine they'd be same dimensions as the Goldplanar 1200 but they use velcro pads(?) whereas these don't.

Anyway, I made some EQs for the AMT using the Goldplanar 850 frequency response. I'm hoping to making more later. You can import the files in PeaceAPO

I don't know why you scooped the 1K-2KHz on the first one, but I kind of like the 2nd one. And I don't use PEACE, just EQ APO, but these work fine as is. Saved me from doing a hand-tooled PEQ from the FR charts. :)

Yeah I just wanted the two that I posted to sound a bit different. I was aiming for a Hifiman-esque sound signature and I ended-up liking what I got, even though it's a quite bright. When going through motions of making EQs, I change the just little by little to see where it ends up. I'm sure at one point I'll figure out one with less of a scoop that's still a touch bright, and I'll keep on touching-up the second EQ as well.

I use EQ2 with filter 4 disabled, and the preamp at -4dB, -12dB is wayyyy too much

I thought you were using a FR chart and trying to hit a curve

Both EQs are meant to be adjustable to taste, especially using the low/high shelf filters. For example low shelf filter can be reduced to 2.5/3db to get less low-end emphasis.

I would think that since the Gold Planar 850 is a different physical design and product than the Monoprice AMT, it is likely the frequency response curve is also somewhat different. (?)

It's a strange beast: the cups have the HEDDphone shape, I can see the same VVT driver shape they use. However, the headband looks like the one the GL850 uses, and the XLR ports have the same angled, recessed port as the GL850. <Monoprice> "Let's copy BOTH!" :D

Yeah I think you're absolutely correct. Especially with the shape of the cup being changed, different pads, etc. Earlier in this thread it was mentioned that the Monolith AMT may be a rebrand(?) of the Gold Planar GL850 because they (may) have the same drivers. That's why I initially chose to test out how well an EQ for the GL850 would work for the AMT. The result was good enough that I thought I'd share. It's not perfect, and I'm definitely noticing some quirks but I still find it much better than the stock FR.

Until we get a proper measured frequency response of the Monolith AMT, using the GL850 as a baseline for EQ seems like a worthwhile starting point.

I usually just match the preamp to the maximum gain peak to avoid potential clipping, but yeah it can be lowered. As long as there is no digital clipping you should be fine i think.

At this point I'm betting on it that Goldplanar and Monolith are part of the same company. With Monolith being the less expensive/value little brother.

@hottyson do you still have the AMT?
Yes, I still have my Monoprice AMT. However, with my new job and graduate classes, I have been neglecting my headphones. Mainly, I have just listened with ZMF Aeolus on Quicksilver Audio amp while completing my many writing assignments. I will be so happy in about five months when I can get back to the more important things in life like audio gear. My AMT won't be going anywhere as it has found it's forever home with me.

I was wondering what EQ you use with yours, and if you rolled any pads? If so, where did you get them?

I equalise my AMT using Gold Planar GL850 preset on HeSuVi. My ear pads are stock. Sounds wonderful to my ears. Monoprice AMT equalised are in my top three headphones since they sound so different over any dynamic driver or planar magnetic headphone.

Could you post the adjustments? Or link?

Couldn't find the AMT on the master list, but I did find the GL850

EDIT: After trying both, I prefer the GL850 PEQ

What I use is the Gold Planar GL850 preset in HeSuVi. It may be the same or similar to equalisation that you are using as they are both from AutoEq data.

.
Github link contains the preset for many headphones including Gold Planar GL850. Click on three horizontal dots, then download file to a Windows pc.

.

Must have HeSuVi installed first to utilise presets. https://sourceforge.net/p/hesuvi/wiki/Help/

That EQ curve looks like the same from the GL850 AutoEQ page, so I will just use the provided profile in EQ APO. Thx for confirming!

I am amused that we seem to have similar tastes in our choice of hardware and sound profiles. :)

Yes, amusing indeed. There are three forum members on the headphone forums that I trust most in regards to headphone gear listening, tastes, and opinions. You are among those three. The other two are ShaneD and generic.
