We are working on 2 additional members of these awesome planets

Saturn: this was born due to the distinctively differences between Mercury and Jupiter. This one is to be closing the gap between these two planet and just as it name suggested, Saturn is a good friend to both. Saturn will bring the mixtures of both Mercury (very neutral and references) + Jupiter (very musical and enjoyable). Some people may want something that is neither too neutral nor too musical. Hence we are bringing you Saturn !!!

Venus: TBA

Ok, I hate being lazy but can someone please explain how changing the DAP region code will alter the sound? Also, how do I go about trying it? Thanks in advance everyone.

Because apparently the sound algorithms are tuned slightly differently for different markets. You download and run the RockBox Sony tool to change region and uncap EU units. See the links in the first post in this thread

I have attached my notes, from when I was figuring out how to do the region code change.
(Works for ZX300 also)

For the Rockbox files, @nc8000 had them in a dropbox in a recent post

Just came across this thread from headfi Sony NW1A/1Z thread. Holy moly, my WM1A is a fresh new device after receiving "Japanese" certificate.

Many thanks for the guidance on few modded firmwares, successfully installed and tested three of them namely WM2Z 3.0.2, DMP-Z1 1.01 and DMP-Z1 1.0.2 in this sequence.

My preference is DMP-Z1 1.02 (like other review, the sound is smooth, long hour listening without fatigue LOL) then WM2Z 3.0.2 (quite close to DMP-Z1 1.0.2 with slight detail, I may switch to this firmware some times for critical listening again) and next DMP-Z1 1.0.1 (too much bass, as a result I can't really appreciate sub-bass to low midrange sound produced by music instruments especially classical music)

Unless Sony release new 4.0 firmware, the above mentioned modded firmware will stay for quite a while.

Edited: Listen with CA Andromeda Green & Sony EX800ST
I wish to report I flashed my stocked 1A between several version of firmwares namely, Ultimate 1.0.2, Jupiter Tier 2, Mars Tier 2...

Now I am happy with my WM2Z 3.0.2, smooth and comfort for long hour listening ... DMP-Z1 1.0.2 almost similar sound signature as WM2Z with slight more detailed , my next liking firmware.

Tested under all mode off.

Thanks again for the modified firmware shared.

Hi All, I updated my WM1A to stock 3.02 firmware, then I changed to J region. However, I can't upload any mod firmware because my PC kept saying, "connect the target device to a computer with a USB cable". My WM1A already connected and Windows can detect both internal & external memory. Any idea how to solve this porblem? Thanks in advance.

You are using the wrong fw file. There are 3 European, Japan and Universal and you have to choose the correct one based on the label on the side of your player. If it is the original modyfied fw you are trying out you need to edit the xml file in each fw according to instructions somewhere in this thread

So my 1Z did the same thing when I tried to convert from US to Japan and then tried to download J firmware. I can still download using Universal FW though. Does that mean that my DAP is still US region? Thanks!
