Modhouse Audio Argon - T50RP MK2/3 & T60RP

I have a line on some Dekoni Blues or the Mass Drop T-0X or whatever for about the same price in the $140 range. What is the difference between the two post conversion? If I do the Dekoni's I really don't want the protein pads. I like the sound and the comfort of these nice pads but the material feels hot on my face. I almost just want to bite the T60 Price bullet. ~$150 I have HD 660s (that I might sell) and DCA Open X (supposedly have a HD 650 sound) and then for work MMX300II's. Looking for a comfortable closed back experience. Don't have to be a detail monster.
MK2 Argon if you can, any MK 3 will work too. I forget how the T60 version sounded but it was smoother. If you are considering IEM's the 7hz timeless is fun.

I mean the 2 and 3 are not the same right? I should probably email Ryan thought I hate to bother him with too many questions.
MK2 hard to find, the original Argon sound. More sub bass focus, clean.

MK3 modified to be close, think it's warmer and some actually prefer this.

T60RP is sort of it's own thing, general character is the same but the wood housing changes the acoustics. Some really like this sound.

All are good, I always liked the MK2. They need a decent amp to drive it or get the best from it.

Perfect. Yeah I have an Asgard 3 which Ryan is recommending. Sounds like the Drops and sending them to Ryan is the right way.

Trying my T60 Argons on my new amp the last few days (LD MK9).
They were great. And I did not even need my Schiit Loki.

I went and got the upgraded pads and baffle for my T60 Argons.

Have to say, they do what they say on the tin:

The earpads offer a bigger soundstage (definitely a more spacious sound - which I love!) and more linear bass (not sure if it extends deeper or is just flatter through the bass frequencies that the T60 drivers operate at).

The baffle is supposed to reduce peaks in the upper midrange - I'm not sure I notice the difference but someone with a better trained ear might. I was hoping it may tame a little of the sibilance I hear, but its by no means a major issue for me as I do like a little bit of crisp. I think "essy" sounds sit higher up in the frequency range than the the area affected by the baffle. the rest of the mids do sound very nice with the baffle but I don't know if it's better than without the baffle. All I can say is I've put them in and am happy enough with the sound to leave them in. Actually, as I'm writing this I'm listening to Mdou Moctar and his Electric guitar not tearing my brain to bits, which is nice.

The biggest change I noticed is in pairing the T60 Argons with the ifi Micro iDSD Signature. With the ZMF pads the bass boost would have almost no impact on the sound, as though the bass was unnaturally boosted by those pads. With the new Modhouse pads bass is great without the bass boost - deep, clean, textured and punchy enough for me. The bass boost with the new pads makes the sound much bassier - great for some songs, but not all, sometimes too punchy and aggressive. I like having the flexibility to choose now.

I'd be interested to hear other people's takes on the new pads, but there are my thoughts... and if anyone is able put up before and after measurements that would be a nice bonus.

Wholeheartedly agree with everything you said. The new pads are an excellent addition as well as a much needed alternative option to the stock pads. The soundstage is indeed wider and feels more spacious with the MHA pads. I m on the fence about the baffle though. I only owned the Argon T60 for a week before i upgraded to the MHA pads and baffle so i dont really remember what the stock baffle/ no baffle sounded like. The treble, even with the new baffle, can be peaky on some tracks but its nothing too crazy. I would LOVE to add just a little bit of boost to the mid bass just to up the deepness of male vocals and increase the thickness of the mids in general. I might mess around with some DCA tuning filters for Aeon headphones and see if i can tame the treble a little bit.

I m glad to know that other folks are also enjoying the new pads and baffle as much as I am. Happy listening.

My T60 Argons LOVE the bass boost and 3D sound effects from my iFi. It takes them to a different level. I was using them on my tube amp and they sounded good. I even turned the Schiit Loki on for a while and they were more fun. But they love those iFi toys.:L3000:

Oooh interesting! What tube amp do you use with Argons?

Didn't think you could get enough power with tubes for the T60s.

I was very surprised also! I should mention that I am a quiet listener and rarely/never go over 75Db's.
My new amp is a Little Dot MK9, which needs to be in high gain. I was sure I would need the Schiit Loki to add gain and bass, but it sounded good to me with just the amp.
But to be clear, it goes to another level on the iFi.
The only headphone in my collection that it could not deal with was the HiFiman HE6se V2's and I expected that. It is awesome with all my DD 'phones.

I tend to listen at around the same volume as you. I'll need to start experimenting.

I'm finally going in for the Argon MK3. I love the T60 but want something warm and bassy to add to my collection, which is mostly neutral and bright headphones.

I'm having a hard time deciding what pads to get with the Argon MK3. I'm looking for the pads that would give the biggest soundstage whilst also being warm, bassy and not sibilant.

I watched DMS's video from 3 years ago which seems to suggest I need to choose between the ZMF Protein and Eikon Pads (although it's not clear what material the Eikon pads should be?).

Also wondering if anyone has tried the MK3 with Auteur pads? Following the logic of the MHA pads for the T60 Argons, the Auteur pads have a wider sound hole than the oval and Eikon pads so I wonder if that would boost the soundstage on the MK3s in the way the MHA pads have done for the T60s (and if so, any drawbacks)?

Wondered if anyone with Mk3s can share pad recommendations based on the preferences I've described?

Thanks in advance!

I haven't done any comparisons, I've only listened to mine with the ZMF proteins. But I would definitely describe them as warm, bassy, and not sibilant. Soundstage, though, nothing special.

Modhouse recommends the Protein pads for the Mk3.

I remember that I ordered mine and, due to the pandemic, they were having problems getting the protein pads. They offered me the velour from the Tr60, as a second option. But I told them that I was looking for a warm and bassy sound signature, more focused on electronic music, so he recommended me the proteins if I was looking specifically for that. So we decided to wait (not for a long time) for the proteins pads to arrive.

I got a T60 Argon with MHA suede pads delivered 3 days ago and I'm seriously impressed with this headphone. How does the T60 Argons compare to the original T60RP? I purchased this because of the reviews and it's making me kind of curious how much of an actual improvement Modhouse made to these.
