Mod House Audio Tungsten - Planar Magnetic Headphones - Impressions and Discussion

I just picked up a used Fiio Q7. I'm curious about a potential transportable source for the Tungsten. Short of packing up my Jotunheim, I have not found something yet. I tried an ifi iDSD Black Label. It just does not have the voltage to power them. It was ok but the bass boost would distort even at lower volume and there was very little if any headroom.

I'm starting to write my review after about two weeks with the Tungsten. In summary, they are an amazing headphone!

The new Enleum HPA-23RM is probably the most powerful mobile unit out there, and able to offer both high voltage and high current (in fact, it has two separate amps for each)

I demo-ed it and CanJam NYC and it was pretty amazing for its form factor

it is very expensive thought (about $3k or so from memory), so you’d want to have mobile is a key use case if you went that route..

It's too bad we didn't try the Ray Samuel's intruder on the Tungsten, Ray made darn sure that thing could drive he-6 to ear bleeding volume with no clipping. It might be a great option.

Thanks for that! I hadn't heard of it. Looks pretty neat. The price is pretty steep but might be worth looking into.

The Enleum is great, I got one in and it really have a punchy and "desktop" like sound and the build is incredible.

I'll give it a try with He6 and susvara and see if it's up to the task.

Yea, didn’t think of that one.. perhaps we can arrange to do this at CanJam SoCal?.. I’ll keep this in mind!

Interesting! I'll need to give it a shot.

I recently tried a Bakoon AMP-13R. Now THAT was impressive. I tried it with the Verite open! Great combo. I wish still had access to that to try with the Tungsten.

I tested it back then with my Susvara (show conditions and all). Would be very curious to see your take in quite listening environment

I am indeed working on hifiman pads, no Timeline yet.
Something warmer with more bass than stock would be lovely.
I would also buy warmer pads for Tungsten. I’m waiting for my double magnet set.

Look at the Cayin C9. I sold mine because I don't travel any longer. But it's a very powerful amp. Delivers 2.6 watts into 32 Ohms. Has tubes (Nutubes) and soild state output stages and looks very nice. It is bigish, but is transportable.

@Tulon Any updates on the Tungsten release? Will the product page be up soon on your website?

Looking forward to hearing more impressions of these, especially more comparisons with any HE1000 models (and Caldera and Elite)!
