At SBAF "clemmaster" feeds his Audial S5 with a Holo Red via USB and seems to like it very much.
BTW, congrats, the black version looks really great, I am curious about your listening impressions.

Thanks Matt, the Holo Red is a real option. Sadly, Magna have no stock until September. I may just have to struggle through until then.

Another painfully expensive purchase arrived today. I'm sick of getting stung for import duty every time I buy things at the moment, but needs must.

I have a new pair of Melz 1578 being shipped out to me, and I am hoping that combination will bring my tube rolling experiments to an end for the foreseeable.

It is very expensive hobby. No more tubes rolling after Melz 1578 and Gec A2900 for my MZ3, i just ordered another pair of very expensive tube Reflector 6N30P-Dr for my DNA Sonett 2. Hopefully your Melzs arrive soon, enjoy it John.

It really is. I had a £500 bill to pay importing the S5. I'm still searching for the perfect DAC and source to complement the MZ3. I haven't found it yet, and I'm not sure the S5 is right either, but I need to give it more time.

I can feel your pain living in European countries and have to pay high amount of VAT taxes. In Virginal, State that i live we only pay 6% tax. I use Gustard R26 as DAC and it is fantastic with MZ3.

If you want to save a boat load of money on tubes get the 7193 type. Two top caps one half of a 6SN7 and better sounding than ANY 6SN7 I have tried. A better signal path for the tube by using the top caps. Adapters I got on eBay. They come from China and are well made. These just fit and you need to use these smaller ones, not the ones with the larger plexiglass base.

Same specs as each half of a 6.3 volt 6SN7 tube.

Oops: in Fairfax County VA, the sales tax is 6.0% ( or 0.06 in decimal form) …

I have the BorderPatrol DAC SE-i into my MZ3 and am blown away on how awesome it sounds. When I purchased my MZ3, LTA sold this combo from their website but I couldn't afford it. Perhaps you may want to investigate that one.
Of course, I'm eagerly awaiting more information about LTA own DAC their working on. So, maybe wait for that.

A combo I need to revisit soon. The Brimars also pair well with Ken-Rad vt231 and Raytheon 6sn7gtb ( installed ) - currently listening to The Crusaders - Southern Comfort. Heavenly. Which Jack Johnson recording are you playing?
