Microsoft buries ten grand on the internet

So MS is that desperate to get everyone onto IE8? Hmm .. maybe I'll reload Safari (less bugs). Those kind of brazen marketing moves don't endear me any more.

I guess I'll never find that $10 grand using "tarnished Chrome". Oh well

  1. Open to Australian residents only.
  2. There is nothing wrong with IE8. In fact, it's quite good.

The few times I've had a lock up I've been able to diagnose and remedy it in short time. I also don't need to replace parts every week to keep my PC working. WinXP may not be most productive, but it's far from broken. Don't believe everything Apple and fanboys (on either side) tell you.

And you are snobbish. Each time we brought this up previously, you'd ignore our help, not even giving a a legitimate excuse. Hell, the paragraph I quoted says plenty about your attitude. And if your IT people or whoever don't have the care or know how to keep XP PCs stable, then well...

I agree. I still prefer to use the motorcycle/tricycle analogy. Mac users are analogous to people who prefer tricycles because they're more efficient, far more stable, and easier to use than motorcycles. Uncle Erik here is the classic example of a person who has obviously tried unsuccessfully to customize and ride his own motorcycle and subsequently crashed, and now complains to us about it. It's not our fault that you busted up your motorcycle, and we're not going to help you with that kind of attitude, so my suggestion would be for you to hop back on your tricycle going 5 mph with the other mac users while we whiz by you on our motorcycles. By the way, most motorcycles work fine for years and years as long as you do basic maintenance on them like changing the oil. I've noticed that most mac users, however, don't even know how to change the oil.

Back on topic, Chrome FTW! I installed Chrome on my work computer because IE8 is really slow on this old computer (Dell D600). I loved the noticeable speed upgrade when I installed Chrome on my newer Thinkpad T60, but I really came to appreciate just how good Google's code is when I witnessed just how much faster Chrome is on this old computer than IE is. It's really just jaw-dropping how Chrome will load in literally half the time on this computer. IE's inefficiencies are much less noticeable on a modern computer because it's so fast that it makes up for it, but Google really takes web browsing up a notch with this browser, IMO. Now if they could just get Java to work... what's up with that??

I've used IE8, Chrome, Firefox, Opera, even Maxthon (only browsers I haven't recently used are Netscape and Safari), all for at least a month at a time, by themselves. Opera was the only one that challenged Firefox, but in the end Adblock brought me back to Firefox. Chrome was fast but it misses too many of the features I like from Firefox and Opera. If Opera had better adblocking support I would probably use it over Firefox, but I would just miss Adblock too much.

the code quality in firefox isn't very good.

BUT - it has checkpointing for when it (does) crash; you don't lose anything, at least.

it has the best plugin architecture and the plugins MAKE the platform. IE has no plugins and nothing that helps the user 'deal' with the wild-wild-web

I would be lost without adblock, flashblock, noscript and things like that. IE forces too much 'no! you can't' on you. firefox is of the mind 'yes, you can'. quite a different take on user experience.

IE is also single platformed. firefox exists on all modern compute platforms. that's a huge win.

I use xp for things that need it but I 'vnc' into a unix box and run firefox there. I have never had a 'drive by' virus or anything like that. my browser setup is completely safe and there can be no harm done by anything I 'click on' with firefox, a user account (non root) and unix.

using IE exposes you to too many risks. its not prudent to use MS browsers.

I haven't had Firefox crash on me since I've been using Windows 7. Actually probably longer than that. I've been using Windows 7 since the first beta was released btw.

I'm running the very last beta before the RTM is released (guy I bought my iPod from gave me it, he's a TechNet member) and I actually have IE removed from the OS.
